Love this place I've been going since it was on Polk. The owner is very nice and always speaks when he's there. It's clean organized and a great place for produce and othe groceries.

(Note: I thought I had already reviewed this place, and just discovered, after writing this review, that I had, under its correct name, The Grocery Clearance Center. There are many more reviews of it under that name, so check that out if you want more feedback and opinions on this store.)As others have said, there are some really good deals to be had here, particularly in specialty areas, like gourmet or organic items. Naturally, the stock on hand depends on what has become available to the owners, so you have to go with an open, adventurous mind, not expecting to get this or that particular item (though it seems you can be pretty sure of having a fairly broad range of snack chips from which to choose, as well as various kinds of coffee, cookies/sweets, and some other categories of things). Sometimes items are not out of date (sometimes not even close to it), but have been gotten off-loaded by regular stores or distributors to make room for different products, or for newer package designs for the same product, or because a store was going out of business. Some items are there because packaging got damaged in some way that did not affect the actual food, such as when outer boxes get inadvertently slashed by box cutters, but the bags inside are undamaged. The outer boxes can then be taped up, offering us a good deal on the undamaged product inside. The reason for product being there just varies, but there's such a variety that I've never failed to find quite a few things that interested me, and I've been introduced to things I really liked, that I might never have tried otherwise. (The most recent example of that for me is some kind of sweet snack bar that's apparently quite high in protein, due to having crickets as one of its main ingredients. I'd been reading so much about this trend towards using the good nutrition available from various kinds of insects, and so bought one bar, to give it a try; I haven't yet opened and tried it, so, to be perfectly accurate, I can't claim to like it yet, but I do like that this store made it inexpensive enough to lure me to try it, which I will do soon--really).Sometimes I see items for sale here at prices that Kroger or another regular chain can beat, when they have a good sale on, or with strategic couponing, if one is up for bothering with that. But most often, I find excellent deals on specialty items, so I can try them if I haven't yet, or stock up on some that I already know I like. This store (actually called The Grocery Clearance Center) is not geographically very close to my usual haunts, but I enjoy making a trek to it now and then, and view my occasional visits as adventures, which have so far always proved worth my time and effort. The store is certainly not fancy (the look of the outside and parking lot, particularly), but it's kept clean and is reasonably pleasant to explore. I've also always met with very pleasant people working there, from the owners down to this or that young cashier. They also have a loyalty program, which has switched over from the old card-stamping set-up, to using an app called "Flok," which is used by various other local businesses offering discounts or incentives. The store gets five stars from me, partly on the strength of the part it and its owners play in fighting waste and promoting efficiency in our food system. If you're willing to keep an adventurous and open-minded spirit about it, a visit here will almost certainly prove worth your while.

We are glad for this store because there are so many natural, or organic items that would otherwise be too expensive for us to even try. The owner is often there and quite likely to engage newbies in conversation about the store. He explained to us that if ever anything is not up to snuff, bring it back for a store credit, which, on occasion, we have had to do.We have tried many sections of the store but return most reliably to: the chip aisle to find some new favorite; the frozen section to find some vegan franks or curly fries; the specials aisle for things like Fantastic brand vegetarian sloppy joe mix (priced 1.99 as of this writing), and Bob's Red Mill garbanzo flour (3 for $1 and still in date). We like to bring our own shopping bags to make it an even greener experience. I think the owner should probably go ahead and claim his Yelp page, maybe add some photos, and it would help people feel acclimated to what this store is like before they venture in.Oh, on that note, this is located in a small strip mall on the northwest corner of Cockrell Hill and W. Kiest Blvd in Dallas, with a massive parking lot. The corrugated roof is painted with the words Half Off.Incidentally, we only found out about this place because someone would bring non-GMO tasty chips to freely share at the First Tuesday free movie nights up at Unitarian Universalist Church of Oak Cliff, and we finally had to ask since such chips would typically cost $5-7 per bag and, thus, might not normally get shared quite so 'liberally.' Dallas Food Depot is the Valhalla for cheap specialty chips.

Holy Smokes! This place is incredible. It's like the Ross Dress for Less of the Grocery world. Grocery Clearance Center deals are nothing short of incredible. We got big bags of potato chips that cost $3-$4 per bag in the regular stores for 2 for $1.....They had Terra, Kettle Brand, Canyon Creek and many more! Coconut Water $3.99 per case of 12...I'm not kidding! My son is Gluten Free and they have an incredible selection at unbelivable prices. Far too much too mention. We drove up from Plano and spent $58 and got a cartful of grocerys! If you like saving money, this is a must visit. As a side note the owner is soooo hottt...he's also a must see!

As a customer of the Dallas Food Depot for over three years, it is time to set the record straight as to the merits of this establishment.First The Chief Executive Officer, Mr, Gary Gluckman and General Manager, Ms, Sharon Gilbert have a professional fluidity and unite as a unique management team. One of superb stature. How so?The store shelves are always stocked to capacity. As necessary, the stock is carefully monitored and rotated. As one peruses the aisles, one will find plentiful supplies of traditional, commonly recognized labels, plus surprising and most welcomed arrays of organic foods and imported foods. In general, the prices are noticeably lower to very substantially lower than the very same foods which many purchase at the chain supermarkets or upscale grocery stores.A very important thing to note is that in my years of shopping, I have never seen a SINGLE bug, and/or rodent within the store. Nor has the store ever become dusty or unclean. Upon opening packaged foods at home, I have NEVER found bugs or moldiness either. Nor have I ever experienced indigestion. The refrigerated and frozen foods which I have often purchased in bulk--sometimes in very large quantities--have never soured, been victim of freezer burn or shown any signs of compromised taste. Finally Mr. Gluckman and Ms. Gilbert are beyond being the minimum descriptive of "warm and friendly" people. They offer no pretense, are eager to answer customers' concerns and behave towards us as though our patronage really does matter. To them, it does!!The staff is composed of people from the teen years to over age 80. They are loyal, have been there for years and have become as genuinely cared for family members--NOT the phony propaganda which the chains put forth about "staff as family".Please do MORE than consider shopping at this store. Do shop there. Then walk out afterwards with a lot more food for a lot less money.Despite the gas prices, I travel a long distance to this store about twice a month. It is still financially practical to keep doing so.P.S. I was not paid or otherwise offered any monetary or other incentive to speak my peace.

FIRST -- this is not a place for people who think they are going to a "regular" grocery store. It is truly for the bargain and price conscious shopper who knows good quality and VALUE.SECOND -- they bust their butts to bring you the very best quality at INSANELY LOW prices! And they stand behind what they sell. I have been shopping there for over 20 years. They shop the secondary and overflow markets and then bring us back the very BEST stuff at prices the regular chain stores just can't or WON'T give us.The staff here is wonderful, friendly, and go out of the way to help you. They are diverse in age and ethnicity but the SAME when it comes to being customer focused!

Dallas' lesser equivalent to Fort Worth's Town Talk was more of a player in former location a decade ago. While there are some nice things from time to time, check your expiration dates as things can be over a year out of date. Pricing for out of code merch can also be higher than Tom Thumb sale prices. If owners would be more aggressive, this could be on the same level as a Town Talk but not sure why this store is so passive and allows so much food to sit around month after month. While you can bring bad food back as previous reviewer has and should do due to ancient store stock, not sure why that should be an incentive to shop at any grocery store. On a positive: do like the organic and offbeat items.
