The wife and I had supper there Wednesday evening- a celebration of more than a few trips around the sun.We were greeted and taken to our table and our server took our drink and appetizer orders while we looked at the menu. We both wanted their river and discussed the options. The manager told us he might have a center cut and would carve off a piece larger than the offered 14 ounce piece. I ordered a 16 ounce cut done to medium along with grilled squash and a salad. Sandra ordered the 10 ounce, a baked sweet potato, and a salad. The salads were crisp! Soon, our meal was delivered. My steak was well-trimmed meaning i was getting 16 ounces of steak, not 13 ounces of meat and 3 ounces of fat. The seasoning was perfect, the meat was curable with a fork. The grilled squash perfectly complemented the meat. Sandra's was equally tasty although a bit overdone. Ribeyes are known for taste and tenderness. The trick is to grill them to just shy of medium. That temperature allows the dat to melt tenderizing the meat and adding to its taste. Too rare, the fat cannot worknm its magic. Cooled toward more done, thecfat burns off and the meat dries out and becomes chewie. Folks, when a great piece of meat is cut thin, it overcooks quickly. Culpepper's source for precut steaks makes the cut all thin. The supper ended with a delicious slice of key. lime pie.If you are looking for a great meal, Culpepper will deliver it. At 76, I have eaten many ribeye steaks. Mine this past Wednesday was one of the top five I have enjoyed. The service was first rate. The atmosphere was exceptional. The price was competitive.

20% automatic tip for parties of 6 or more???? Ambiance is meh... dated for newer locations in the area. Food was meh... but prices on the menu for hard ass chairs and mid era bar type tables to sit at do not equate to 5 star steakhouse prices. I had the smash burger had a regular McDonald's style sesame bun on it - nothing fancy about it at all - came with soggy onion rings, wife had 9oz filet decent taste but rarer than what was

We visited Culpepper for the Fajita Friday special advertised on social media, we stopped in around 11:30am. Seated after a few minute wait and we were greeted by our server promptly with fresh tortillas and butter. We each ordered the fajita specials to try, one beef and one chicken both with flour tortillas (no substitutions or changes). Our fajita orders arrived within 1-2 minutes after ordering and overall was just okay. Portion sizes were small and the plates contained mostly onion no peppers; served with a small side of rice, beans, cheese and toppings. Flavor wise the food was bland, however the chicken had more flavor than the beef. We were hopeful based on the fajita advertising on social media, but not as impressed as we'd hoped. We might give another shot and return to try Happy Hour and other menu options, we hear there are live music nights.

Making a reservation online was easy. The restaurant was busy and had to wait at the reception before we could be seated. The reservation was for patio seating but they gave us a table inside and we requested a table in the patio. What's the point of a reservation if the details are overlooked? The live band inside the patio was good. Be aware that drinks in the patio are served in plastic cups only. Started off with margaritas which were nothing to rave about. Chose to switch to red wine. Guacamole for the appetizer was ok and so were the steaks. Service at the table was good but there were misses on requests.Overall an ok-ish experience.Pricing : High, considering the experience. Not worth the money spent. Will I return? : Probably not given there are restaurants that offer a great experience in the area.

We've been here a few times, before and after the change. Since the changeover, we've come to listen to live music, have some drinks and a bit of food. We call and make a reservation, as we want to be near the band. We've been with another family with kids and just us, adults. The servers are always attentive and kind. Tonight i had the smash burger and I was blown away. I swapped the American cheese for cheddar, but that wouldn't have changed my mind one bit. The patties are seasoned really well and I can tell they are not frozen. I've eaten burgers in many, many restaurants and this is hands down the best. The "special sauce" and pickles compliment the cheese and patty really well. The shoestring fries were just okay. Next time I'll try the onion straws! I've also had the chicken with sausage and the fried green tomatoes. No complaints from me. We will be back again and again

While visiting family in TX we had dinner at this restaurant. Everything from start to finish was excellent. We went on a Friday night at 7:15pm. The hostess greeting was pleasant and welcoming. They had a live band which added to the amazing ambiance of the night. We sat outside. Our server Sarah was amazing. She communicated the menu items very descriptively when we inquired. She consistently checked on our table. The service manager Joe was also great. The server who brought the salad was friendly and funny. The manager also came over to check on us. I've NEVER said this about any restaurant but the service here was IMPECCABLE!!We started with an appetizer of coconut shrimp which was delicious. For dinner we had Culpepper chicken, smothered chop steak, 6oz filet which was cooked to perfection, chicken fried steak. Everything was great. The portions are just right. I opted for a cosmo. Best cosmo I have had in a long time. One recommendation is do not sit at the table under the speakers outside. It's hard to hear your dinner guests. We were screaming at each other to hear one another. We did as for the volume to be turned down. Despite this all else was nothing short of amazing and this did not take away from my overall customer experience. Do I recommend? HELL YES. Would I go back? AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN.

I have wanted to try Culpepper since moving to the Rockwall area in 2009 but then we moved. Now that we are back I decided that the day before Valentine's Day would be a great time. Then I saw the reviews... and was turned off. So glad I didn't let a few harsh critics stop me from going. The ambiance is very Texas-y which I LOVE! Cowhide chairs, horn chandeliers, etc. Service was great! Vivian was really busy and she forgot my sweetener for my tea but the rest of the service was fantastic. Maybe because it was a Tuesday night? My husband and I had the porterhouse for 2. It was a great price and very tasty. My complaint was the side item choices were all carbs except for green beans. The guacamole was not good, very acidic, the lime juice was covering the underripe avocado. For a steakhouse, I wish they had more options on the cuts of meat they serve. I found the prices to be on par with a Saltgrass, not overpriced at all. The triple chocolate cake looked very rich and overindulgent- I was bracing myself for something super sweet but to my delight, it was not! Very light chocolate flavor, even the frosting was not super sweet. I will be back for the cake alone.

I made reservations for dinner for my wife's birthday and we were looking forward to a nice relaxing dinner and a few drinks. It was a Tuesday night so it wasn't really very crowded. It took a while before our server appeared to take our drink orders and even longer to get our drinks. When she brought our drinks we'd had plenty of time to decide what we wanted to eat, so we ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer and we also gave her our dinner order at the same time. We waited for quite a while and needed a second round of drinks. Again we waited a long time for the drinks. Meanwhile our dinner salads arrived so we ate those still waiting for the drinks. A few minutes later another server brought our entrees. I asked her to send my server to the table so I could speak with her. When she arrived I reminded her about the appetizer that we never got. I told her that we got our entrees but never got the tomatoes. I also let her know that they got my order wrong. I ordered fries and got some kind of potato hunks covered in cheese. She went back to the kitchen to get my fries and brought the other drinks we ordered some time earlier. Finally. The entire experience was confusing and not good at all and certainly not what I expected and it wasn't worth what it cost me. I have been there many times and it was always pretty good but that was not the case when I took my wife out for a nice dinner. I sure hope it's better the next time I go, if I ever do. What a ripoff. Overpriced for the food, the drinks and the experience we had.
