Children's Health StarCenter - Mckinney is one of the local DFW ice rinks located in Mckinney, TX offering ice skating as well as hockey. The ice rink has 2 sheets of ice that offers skating as well as hockey for kids and adults. There are multiple programs here for hockey such as the Dallas Stars Metro Hockey league that ranges from teens all the way down to kids. They also offer adult hockey and a learn to play hockey academy for players who are just learning about the game. Inside is spacious and has bleachers for the spectators and fans to sit down and enjoy the game. This facility also offers High School Hockey around the DFW area as well. They have a full-service bar inside named 19 degrees with multiple TVs and they also have a concession stand that sells food such as popcorn and nachos along with drinks. You can always log onto the Dallas Stars Children's Health StarCenter webpage for an accurate schedule of the day for times and prices. The front desk tends to not answer the phone and makes you utilize the user-friendly webpage for service. Overall, this StarCenter is nice and has great amenities to the community and we enjoy coming here watching our kids play hockey and having an awesome time!

Came from Austin for a weekend tournament, place was nice. But hands down the best part was watching this guy bust his butt all weekend. Great attitude, pleasure to see him smile!

My son is on a Varsity team and a travel team, so we are at rinks quite often. This rink is by far the best. It's always clean, the employees are nice and the restaurant/bar is always open! The food is delicious. I wish all the Star Centers were ran like this one.

As of July 1st, it has been made clear that the Starcenters are not interested in anyones business. Not public skaters, not hockey players, not figure skaters, and NOT EVEN COACHES. The changes implemented on July 1st have been devastating to everyone and are going to cost them in both the short term and the long term. No longer are lessons allowed to be taught on public skate. So hockey skaters are pretty much SOL unless they want to pay out the ear for "pro time" which is doubly expensive for the coaches now, who I'd imagine are all going to scatter to the wind. The Starcenters have lost AT LEAST five coaches to these changes already, soon more talent will leave. Guess what...nobody is going to come play for your precious North Stars if they can't learn how to skate anywhere. The change may not happen overnight but all of a sudden those teams are going to find themselves without any talent because there's nowhere for a young (or old) hockey skater to learn how to skate!Just about every adult I know that was taking group lessons has backed out this season. Some of us are headed over to Allen where the classes are a FRACTION of the price and not nearly as crowded. Which would you take? Would you take a lesson for $25 where you can be one of 15 students or would you head over to Allen and pay $10 where you can be one of 2-3 students? Fraction of the price for more face to face time. Plus that's where several of the talented coaches moved to.So that covers hockey, but what about figure skating? They don't want you doing that either. They jacked up the price for freestyle and removed a bunch of hours. So you're paying more and getting way less. And remember how I said you can't take a private lesson on public ice anymore? That means they're throwing a bunch of newbie skaters onto freestyle to take their (much more expensive) lessons which is WILDLY more dangerous than having a lesson on public skate. Clearly whoever made these changes had never watched a 6 year old Basic 3 child or an Adult novice skater attempt to take a lesson on a freestyle session. These changes benefit no one. Speak with your wallet folks and don't spend money at the Starcenters. Take your business to Allen, the Parks at Arlington, or the Galleria mall. The changes they have made hurt everyone and benefit no one. Less ice time, higher prices, and they're driving away all of their decent coaches. Allegedly they make all their money from youth hockey, well those youth hockey programs are going to slowly turn into a joke when none of them can learn how to skate.

I came here for a birthday party. They have a nice little set up. They gave the parents the stickers that the party goer gives to the skate rental. That keeps track of how many people attendants are at the party. They give you two baskets one for shoes and the other for gifts. Then there is a party room for the guests to enjoy snacks, drinks, and cakes. I was mostly impressed with the attendants out on the ice picking up skaters and checking on those that fell. It seems like safety is a top concern. As my son and I were leaving we hadn't had lunch yet. We stopped at the grill. I had a chef salad which was crisp and actually good. My son had cheese bread. It was pretty bad and even kind of smelled.

It's a shame to see so many negative reviews for the StarCenter because I've nothing but good things to say from the front desk staff to the coaches. We're at the rink 2-3 times a week for coaching, enhancement and home games. The coaching sessions are well run with various different stations that help hone all the skills needed to be a successful skater such as puck handling, shooting, various skating maneuvers, etc. There's at least one coach per station and a limited number to skaters to ensure everyone gets plenty of turns. The schedules are kept pretty tight and practice always starts and ends on time, which is important for busy people who have schedules of their own.For the hockey games themselves, it's almost like being at a real game! (It is a real game). For some age groups they use half or third ice and have concurrent games. at least 12U and above use full ice, they even have music while the clock is stopped. Depending on the time keeper, the horn will sound for goals and scorers announced. I gives the kids that real game feeling, too. We've been lucky to have very supportive coaches this yeah, both skate during the team practice sessions so they can really interact with the kids. As with every team and league, there's going to be some coaches that are hit or miss. My son has enjoyed the season so far and even though he's without a goal with 2 games left, the coach keeps putting him in a position to help him try and get his first point.During the practice this week and last week, my son was in a group with a kid who was pushing in front of people, messing up people's practice and eventually cussed at him. I talked to one of the coaches afterwards and explained the situation. He was empathetic and said he would talk to the person involved. I was going to make it official but decided a word in the kids ear may do the trick. It's good to see the coaches are supportive. Finally, I had my first real interaction with the front desk staff. When I walked up I was greeted with a smile and my query was handled, no rudeness as reported by others. Finally, finally...they also have a pretty good bar and you can take alcoholic beverage of your choice into the stands as long as it's poured into a plastic cup first.Overall, the family have been very happy with our experience here and plan to sign up for future activities.

Answer the Phone!!! Is that too much to ask nowadays? It normally takes 8-10 calls to get someone to pick up. This time I'm at 20 calls over 25 minutes and still no answer. I play pickup hockey at several of the starcenter rinks and this one is easily the worst. Never enough players for pickup games and nobody answers the phone to confirm how many players they have signed up. Other reviewers nailed it when they said the rink is run by a bunch of teenagers who are, at best, reluctant to do their jobs. Not a hard thing to fix; so fix it. And answer the phone!!!They get 2 stars because they serve food and have a great bar for post game drinks.

Great rink and staff. I called the rink to ask for a skating coach recommendation for my toddler. They connected me with Tim and we stopped by for an assessment to see if he is ready for structured lessons. Tim did a quick session and we debriefed at the end to discuss next steps. We agreed I would work with him for a few month to get his basic hockey stance and then start something more structured. Tim didn't rush or pressure me to do more lessons now and I enjoyed chatting with him. He said the most important thing is to ensure the kids are having fun and not to force the sport. We came back the next day and the lady at the front was very polite helping us get set for the open skate. I appreciate the staff and general home town feel of the rink. Also the pragmatic advice from coach Tim. Looking forward to getting my youngest comfortable on his edges and plugging him in to the existing programs.

Can't review the skating. Looked fun but didn't get try it. Website states public skating is available but you can only do online in advance. Would have been nice to know that beforehand. They're busy, they have events. That's great! Maybe try to convey that message before willfully wasting potential customers' time.

So not waste your time here. No one ever answers the phone and no one ever replies to email. Sad. You would think a place would do anything to provide good customer service and drive in revenue. Not this place. Go to Allen where they actually care
