We attended the wedding of one of our grandsons, here, this weekend. The village is very quaint. They rented the yellow house across from the chapel for the bride and her ladies to chill and get ready in. It's lovely and homey. And rumored to be haunted. The groom and his men had a very small room in the back of the chapel. Too small really. The reception was great... the groom's cousin put up fantastic charcuterie tables, there was a cute bar trailer offering beer/wine and sodas, so guests had plenty to do while the photographer finished shooting family photos in the chapel. One dark smudge on an otherwise very beautiful day, happened in the chapel. When it was the groom's family photo time, and the groomsmen were waiting, there was a woman -we're not sure who she was or what her position was-some sort of facilitator - who, instead of informing guests that chapel rules were no alcohol ( we had brought our wine and beer in while we waited for our turn) bellowed at a guest who was taking care of the groomsmen and brought them some beers- that 'the man upstairs says no alcohol' or some such thing. The guest was taken aback and recounted the account of Jesus turning water into wine.' She bellowed again- so while the groom's family trying to get their pictures taken this woman who is at the front of the chapel , where the photos are being taken is bellowing to the back pew. "It's chapel rules." This woman was also checking if people had mud on their shoes. Fine. Totally understandable... However, as she was reminded....she should have, being the representative of the business, acting professionally-gone to the back and simply said,'hey guys there's a no food/no drink policy for the chapel.' Instead the groom's family photos may have tense looking postures/faces. After that incident, the guests shrugged it off, grooms party and family headed for the reception. And, then..... there was a great dj and outside/undercover dancing! What a fun time! The day was an amazing time of love and fun and family-except for that one rude employee this review would be five stars.

Did you ever hear the saying," if it was a snake it would have bit you"? McKinney has been part of my life since childhood. Not long ago,it was a sleepy little city north of Dallas. No more. It's exploded and one of the good things that's come with that, Historical preservation.I've driven past this area for decades. Today I turned off the main road to check out some construction. Sitting right in front of me,the oldest house in McKinney! This little area of town has preserved several homes that go back to the beginning. I can't wait to return when I can access the inside of these great places that have been restored to time accurate living models. The grounds are always open,so you can stroll around imagining what it was like living in the area 100 years ago .

Rented the Bevel House at Chestnut Square for my mother's 100th Birthday. What a beautiful venue. So affordable in comparison to all the other places we searched. Had the food catered and dropped off. Kim and her staff took care of everything. They had all the chafing dish buffet servers to keep the food warm. Everything was displayed beautifully. Tables and linen...and at the end of the day we just took down our decorations and they boxed our leftovers. Having her staff option was wonderful, made the day stress free.If you are looking for a location for wedding, birthday, or any special celebration make sure you consider Chestnut Square. Love the location, the affordability! Wonderful venue.

Who knew there were clusters of cute, old-timely historical villages in North Dallas? Well not me!Chestnut Square has a farmers market every 1st and 3rd Saturday in the winter months. There were all kinds of goods for sale, like fresh vegetables, fried pie, beef jerky, homemade soaps, tamales, and more. I would come back again just to try more food and to check out other vendors. This area is also understandably used for weddings, as the cluster of quaint historic houses and chapel make a nice venue. Hmm, maybe it'll go on my own "potential venues" list?

Chestnut Square is just off of the McKinney downtown square and features a collection of historic homes brought (hence, "historic village") to Chestnut Square to be maintained and available for tours. Tours are available Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 11 AM. Every Saturday during the summer they have a Farmer's Market from 8 until 12. During the winter, they have a winter farmer's market whenever the wind chill won't be below 40 degrees. There's not much in the way of produce during the winter. I like the summer's farmers markets better. I particularly recommend Lucky Layla's drinkable yogurt and Rosey Ridge's bread and jams. Really good. Chestnut Square has a lot of activities going on throughout the year and they are usually well attended and well managed. Check out their Living History Days for gun fights and re-enactments. The ghost tours in downtown are put on each year by Chestnut Square. The buildings are in different levels of repair. The Dulaney House and The Johnson? House are beautiful and frequently used for weddings and wedding receptions. The Two Bit Taylor house is occasionally open for tour and worth seeing (nothing fancy but very historical). The school house is pretty cool. The Faires house could use some serious TLC but it has a lot of history. There was a big murder trial here way back and the jury was sequestered in this house. You can walk the grounds any time, but the houses are only open for tour with the escort of the docent. The gardens, pathways, rose hedges and mature trees make this a nice place for a photographer, particularly in the spring.

This place is adorable! Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8-12 there's a small Farmer's Market made up of about 30 or so tables. A great way to pick up some local fresh ingredients, maybe a bottle of wine. Under the trees here you'll feel quite comfortable walking around this 3/4 mile circle, taking a peek of what North Dallas has to offer. Rain or shine, I've noticed these people will be here, so don't let a drizzly Saturday go to waste! They have all kinds of other events and things going on in the square! I great spot to take the family and enjoy our coming Fall weather.
