Cajun Fish Grill

Had a terrific meal here on a recent work trip. Cajun Fish Grill is conveniently located West of SH75 in McKinney strip mall within a tree lined residential neighborhood. Very unassuming outside, the interior is minimal, but with fun decor and very clean and spacious.Menu consists of several different kinds of fish, grilled with a choice of seasoning, grilled zucchini and rice and beans, plus fried catfish, shrimp, oysters, jambalaya, po'boys, hush puppies, other sides, key lime pie, beer, wine and frozen margs. Order at the counter and food is brought to your table. I ordered grilled and blacked catfish with the zucchini, rice and beans and a beer. Food came out in minutes, was beautifully presented and piping hot. The catfish was absolutely delicious, moist and flavorful with a nice bit of heat. The zucchini was prepared beautifully, as were the rice and beans. Everything was extremely flavorful, perfectly seasoned and felt like a healthy option after my BBQ binge the night before. Great huge slice of fresh tasting key lime pie too. Some of the best Cajun food I have had outside of NO and the prices are quite reasonable (about $16 for my entree) for the quality and service.The staff was so, so very polite and friendly. The chef peered out from the kitchen to see if I enjoyed the food. I gave him a big thumbs up and he gave me a nod. Cajun Fish Grill is a perfect combination of faster, casual food elevated to a level of finer dining!

I've been there several times. Mostly a good experience. However, this time I ordered the bread pudding for dessert. I was not served bread pudding. The gave me some kind of cheap excuse for banana pudding. It tasted very artificial. Very disappointing. I suggest they take bread pudding off the menu, rather than serving some cheap, artificial tasting substitute.

Food is good! Can you believe zucchini can be this flavorful?!Came in on the Eve of Thanksgiving and left with a grateful heart for this eatery. Guys were super nice for ordering and serving, couldn't ask for more.

The food was absolutely delicious. So excited to have a good cajun seafood place so close to home. The atmosphere was pretty basic but clean, the service was good and the food is made to order. Fish was nice and crisp and the sides her tasty! Absolutely loved the shrimp gumbo. Will definitely go back.

The food portion was good for the price you pay. Clam chowder was a must, it had lots of clams. The restaurant was clean and the staff members were really friendly and welcoming.

This little family owned restaurant is putting out some incredible food! Casual place with easy counter ordering with plenty of seating indoors or out on the patio. Nice selection of beers including Abita Root Beer. Many grilled, fried and blackened fish choices plus a great cheeseburger. The chowders and gumbo are also great. I've taken out of town guest from Virginia Beach and Seattle and they loved it.

I got the grilled red fish, red potatoes and zucchini. The zucchini was the best thing. Everything else Lacked a lot of flavor. Didn't really look like the pix online. The fish was not fresh at all and was very hard to pull apart. Very tough like steak.

I had super high hopes for Cajun fish grill since I saw a lot of hype on a Facebook group. The catfish was okay, it had a fishy taste to it which is not my thing. My boyfriend had a shrimp po-boy which he enjoyed but again was reaaally fishy in taste. My brother said it was the "fishiest-tasting" shrimp he had ever had. I really liked the hush puppies! Unfortunately won't be back here but glad I gave it a try.

Arrived right at the beginning of dinner rush. Counter service was very patient with husband being on the phone while ordering. I got the 12 piece fried shrimp spicy with fries. Husband got 3 piece fried catfish not spicy with fries. Both meals came with hush puppies which were light, slightly sweet, and perfectly cooked. Meals were large portions and cooked well. I took one star solely based on their red sauce. It's premade, gelatinous, with zero flavor. Also, in the three different containers I tried, there was no consistency of flavor or texture. Suggestion to improve the ambiance: lose the early 80s model home wall decor and either refinish the gummed up finish on most of the tables or invest in table clothes.

Had the shrimp jambalaya. Perfect combination of shrimp, andouille, chicken and served over rice. LARGE plate with two large slices of very fresh toasted bread. Of course I had to sample a bowl of red beans and rice, I could have made that my meal. And had to sample the onion rings.... Well I got about 3 before everyone joined in and they were gone. My daughter got the fish and chips. The fish had just the right amount of beer batter on a thick cut of very fresh cod. My wife got the fried shrimp, 6 of them, LARGE butterflied gulf shrimp and she could not finish the plate. Miguel Mercado, the owner, was a very gracious host, serving us himself. Will definitely be back!!
