"I went to celebration for a girls organization event. The restaurant looks almost like a home with lots of small rooms. We definitely liked the privacy. I ordered the turkey and dressing. My sides were mash potatoes and a salad. I highly recommend the cucumber dressing for the salad. It was delicious! The rest of the meal was good and all the other ladies enjoyed theirs as well. Service was good they came and checked on up frequently but still let us have our space."

"In 2021, I said... "best biscuits in town." I'm pretty sure that still holds as of now. The biscuits are fluffy, buttery and paired with the best spreads: salted whipped butter, golden natural honey and sweet seasonal jam. You always need to start with an order of these here. Heck, you could go and just get coffee or a cocktail with them. You'd be happy with your breakfast! We were last there with a group so we had an order of biscuits, pimento cheese and entrees. I tried their chicken biscuit sandwich. It had a fried chicken thigh, kale apple slaw and honey. It was delish! Surprisingly, I also really enjoyed the pimento cheese. I'm not a typical pc gal, but this one seemed to have more flavor and heat to it. Overall, we had a really lovely brunch! The entire party seemed happy with the food, service (shout out to Melody for all the water refills and being patient with us!), ambiance and (of course)... the biscuits!"

One, for a group of 4 or less. Quite another, for anything larger.This restaurant with it's seating and service is tiller made for small groups. You're treated well, you're cool and comfortable, the ambience (in the outer room) and very homey and pleasant. And the food is phenomenal. One of the managers, Angela, is an absolute gem and one of our favorite people in the industry. I think they have the best burgers in the DFW (a hotly contested category). They remind me of a blast from the past - Fuddruckers.For 4 people or less, they are a five star establishment."

I picked it up myself and started eating it once I got in the car. With that being said it didn't make sense why the fries tasted so bad. They were lukewarm and had absolutely no flavor or texture.The shrimp po'boy was a huge disappointment & I felt like I was practically forcing myself to finish it, due to Joe hungry I was. "This was our first visit to the new NRH location. The food was better than I remember. My wife and I had the chicken fried steak and my daughter the fried chicken, accompanied by mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, gravy, and biscuits. The meat and sides were great. The decor is redneck as it gets, with an added Christmas pop for the holidays. ;-) The service was excellent, no complaints. The only thing preventing me from returning too soon is my waistline. But we'll be back eventually."

"I brought my work team of 5 here to commemorate Black History Month through our support of a local, black-owned business. We didn't have an issue with service being slow like some of the other reviews mention. We had a wonderful experience at lunchtime on a Wednesday. The restaurant was near empty. The waitress sat us quickly and brought us carafes to refill our waters. Background music was great and the perfect audio level for weekday lunch. We got a free appetizer of the corn muffins with honey butter, which are just so delicious. And lunch itself was yummy. My gumbo was a little saltier and spicier than my personal preference but the sweet cornbread muffins balanced it out for me. The gumbo was served with dirty rice, also yummy The team also ordered the hot chicken sandwich and the fried catfish meal. Servings were generous and everyone really loved their dishes. We were out the door maybe by 1:15pm? So total dining time of about an hour. It was totally within timeliness expectations for a corporate lunch hour. Don't hesitate, and check out Southern Gourmet Kitchen if you're in the area!"

"If I could give this place 6 or 7 stars I would. We stopped here for lunch after going horseback riding nearby. It's a small place with a simple concept and everything was very clean. The staff was very friendly and super helpful. I had the fried catfish basket. The catfish was a large piece of fried catfish served piping hot and the hushpuppies and fries were fresh and absolutely delicious. I got the swirled frozen daiquiri which came served in a bag and was very strong and very refreshing. One of the employees brought out a couple complimentary crawfish for me to try and they were so good. My husband got the chicken wings and let me just tell you I am still dreaming about them. Amazing wings. Huge, juicy, well seasoned perfection that don't need a drop of sauce. Saucing those wings would be an insult. I wish I saved room to try some of their dessert but alas we will just have to come back another time. Please stop by here and support a local business with some top notch food."

"Really good food!Let's say you pull a book off the shelf. You study the cover and notice it's old, a bit tattered around the edges and faded from time. But, when you open it up, you discover it's a first edition classic novel written and signed by your favorite author. Well. Southern Recipes Grill is the restaurant version of the tired book.The understated owner-operated restaurant certainly over-delivered on customer service and food quality and value. The table service was prompt, friendly and attentive. I don't think we had to ask for anything the entire meal, and that includes the 'to go' boxes at the end...because portion sizes are very generous. The very generous portion sizes were impressive, but the flavor was pleasantly unexpected. The meal was outstanding! We ordered the special, beef tips with mashed potatoes or rice, and two sides. We also ordered pecan pie for desert. Each slice was over sized, and as good a pecan pie as I've had anywhere in recent memory. This was one of the more satisfying meals we have had in a while.The ambiance definitely could use a face lift, both inside and out. It's old and worn out. But, if an unassuming decor is the price for quality food and generous portions at a fair price, leave everything alone. Who knows, maybe the 1980's ambiance will swing towards vouge next year.Overall, I couldn't be happier with our exexperience at Southern. I felt like I got real value for my money. So, should you go? "First of all, the food here is amazing. Hand down some of the best fried chicken and catfish I've had in the DFW area! The pieces are really well fried, flavorful, and juicy. The Mac and cheese was appropriately cheesy and was well seasoned, and the okra was also good (although I wish it could've been a bit better). The portions are big enough to split with another person or save some for a second meal. Don't be fooled, the food is so good but it is rich and heavy! The place itself is super tiny and most people took their food to go. There is a wait to get the food so order in advance. This is not a sit down restaurant or a place to bring a large group. For this purpose, I really wouldn't recommend it for lunch for a group. But if bringing back to place of work, then it's ok. As far as value, I thought it was a bit on the high side, I think I paid around $25 (I tipped although I took away) for lunch. Next time, I would rather order a la carte and share with a group of people."
