"I brought my work team of 5 here to commemorate Black History Month through our support of a local, black-owned business. We didn't have an issue with service being slow like some of the other reviews mention. We had a wonderful experience at lunchtime on a Wednesday. The restaurant was near empty. The waitress sat us quickly and brought us carafes to refill our waters. Background music was great and the perfect audio level for weekday lunch. We got a free appetizer of the corn muffins with honey butter, which are just so delicious. And lunch itself was yummy. My gumbo was a little saltier and spicier than my personal preference but the sweet cornbread muffins balanced it out for me. The gumbo was served with dirty rice, also yummy The team also ordered the hot chicken sandwich and the fried catfish meal. Servings were generous and everyone really loved their dishes. We were out the door maybe by 1:15pm? So total dining time of about an hour. It was totally within timeliness expectations for a corporate lunch hour. Don't hesitate, and check out Southern Gourmet Kitchen if you're in the area!"

"In 2021, I said... "best biscuits in town." I'm pretty sure that still holds as of now. The biscuits are fluffy, buttery and paired with the best spreads: salted whipped butter, golden natural honey and sweet seasonal jam. You always need to start with an order of these here. Heck, you could go and just get coffee or a cocktail with them. You'd be happy with your breakfast! We were last there with a group so we had an order of biscuits, pimento cheese and entrees. I tried their chicken biscuit sandwich. It had a fried chicken thigh, kale apple slaw and honey. It was delish! Surprisingly, I also really enjoyed the pimento cheese. I'm not a typical pc gal, but this one seemed to have more flavor and heat to it. Overall, we had a really lovely brunch! The entire party seemed happy with the food, service (shout out to Melody for all the water refills and being patient with us!), ambiance and (of course)... the biscuits!"

The kids meal comes with a drink. My fiancé got the daily special which is $3 cheaper than regular price. He got the chicken fried chicken with mash potatoes and gravy and corn. The chicken was cooked just right not dry at all the breading was crispy and had a good flavor. We split the banana pudding and it had chucks of banana in it and was so yummy! We decided to stop in last minute on a Sunday for an early dinner and the staff quickly accommodated all 8 adults and 3 children under 4 years old. We are a rowdy bunch but were quickly tamed by each amazing plate of food. Between all of us we sampled pretty much all of the menu, but were passing plates around so fast I didn't have a chance to get any pictures. Favorites- Sharables: charcuterie board, tuna crudo, deviled eggs. Entrees: Steak and mashed potatoes, shrimp and grits. Like all restaurants at TMF, try to get street parking, otherwise you have to park in the garage, which can be busy on event days. The restaurant itself is a long, quick serve style restaurant with booths along the sides, tables in the middle, and cool Budlong art and murals on the wall. If only it had better parking.... 1/2 Star.Service - The staff is super nice. We went on a grand opening day where the line was to the door, but the staff were all smiles, were super patient with our orders, and made sure we would enjoy our meals. Like most quick service restaurants, you order, give them your name, then wait for your food to come out. 1 StarFood - I ordered the original Nashville Hot chicken sandwich with Cajun potato salad. Kudos to Budlong because the thigh meat works. The chicken was hot, plump, juicy, and contained a good amount of heat. The soft, spongy bun held the chicken and slaw well. The slaw cooled the heat a little, and the cold, creamy Cajun potato salad cooled it a lot. IMO, it was a perfect paring. I chose the buttermilk ranch. And while I didn't dip my sandwich in it, my teens ate it with their hot, crispy crinkle-cut fries. But the star of my meal was the fried corn bread. Served with sweet butter, who knew boring cornbread could be transformed into such greatness? The only downer was the chocolate pie. The dough was very chewy and the chocolate a bit gooey. Otherwise, a great meal! 1 1/2 Stars.Will I Return? - Yes. While I'm not a fan of the parking at Toyota Music Factory, I'm happy that I now have a great local option (I live in Irving) for Nashville Hot Chicken. The only wine option available is Cabernet, with no white wine at all, which explains why there's no wine list on the menu. I ordered a Ketel One on the rocks, but the pours were shockingly small, as every drop of liquor was carefully measured.Service: 4/5Our waitress, KK, was attentive and professional, doing a great job. However, the bar was frustratingly slow in getting her the drinks, which wasn't her fault.Food: 4/5The food was the highlight of the visit. Everyone at the table loved their meals, with standouts including the lamb chops, salmon, tacos, greens, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, cabbage, and Brussels sprouts.
