Lucy M. "I was one of the many fans of Carte Blanche before it closed, so I was eagerly awaiting La Rue Doughnut's opening day, which ended up happening on a weekend when I was out of town. Finally was able to make it out twice in the past month and got to try many of the different flavors on offer -- so glad to report that the baked goods remain some of the best in town, especially our beloved cruller! The brioche doughnuts are pillowy and light and all the various flavors are super balanced and work well together. The only "sad" part for me is how often flavors rotate -- wish I lived closer for the excuse to drop by more often. The Elvis doughnut from October and the lemon pistachio brioche from the latest seasonal flavors were so good, as is the permanent butterscotch toffee brioche. Loved the cookie we tried in October as well. Even the gluten free offering is a wonderful texture and flavor! And of course the kolache is an absolute unit, super savory sausage with a lovely za'atar seasoned dough. Can't wait to stop by again soon to try the next round of new flavors!"

Melanie T. "The Salty Donut is located in the bishop art district area so the vibes and aesthetics are there. It's a really chill place with unique donut options. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with umbrellas. The staff is friendly and helpful.I was fighting the urge to order everything on the menu but every choice we ended up making was delicious. The strawberry shortcake was my favorite. I usually don't like filled donuts but these were tasty. They're not too sweet and the frosting doesn't taste fake. The bbq bun is a must try if it's still available. It's like the char siu bao from dim sum but southern Texas bbq style. Highly recommend making a stop if you're here."

Kris B. "These ladies are beyond amazing! They are so sweet and patient with everyone. They have beautiful, amazing custom donuts out fresh every morning, whether it's for a holiday or just something fun for the kids, like a spider man donut or Cookie Monster. I believe they also do specialty orders if you call ahead of time. My favorite thing to get is the Jalapeño kolache, soooo good, nice and spicy! My newfound favorite though is the cinnamon roll donut holes. I didn't know such a thing existed and it's the perfect pick me up with a cold bottle of chocolate milk. They have tons of drink selections here from hot chocolate, to Red Bull, Gatorade and many other things. They also have breakfast sandwiches and burritos that they will heat up for you to make for a quick on the go breakfast."

Yvonne P. "This is the local donut shop of all donut shops in our area! Korean owned and they have created some of the best croissants and kolaches. Everything from bacon, ham jalapeño, in a variety of ways. Check them out! It's not your average donut shop! And it's super clean and well run/organized. I highly recommend this establishment for your "go to" donut shop."

Jon S. "Decent donuts with a very strange to go food container. Would like to see more variety with the overall offering, and would like them to be given in something other than a generic to go food container from the fire festival.Great service from great employees in a great location! Will be back but wish they would get a couple of things fixed."

Amber N. "Me and my 7 year old stopped in because we had seen pictures and it did NOT disappoint! Literally the most adorable, girly place ever. Perfect for a sweet pick me up with lots of options! It's a little pricey - 3 mochinuts (Korean style donuts) for $10. Obviously not the same price point as your typical donut shop However!! The atmosphere is obviously meant to be an Instagram dream for the teens and 20-somethings that love to do that kind of stuff. It has photo ops galore! They had about a dozen flavor options for mochinuts out and I think they rotate flavors. We had chocolate, raspberry, and mango and brought leftovers home. They're sweet without being overtly sweet, and the texture kind of reminds me of a non-greasy funnel cake. Crunchy on the outside but not super dense. We really enjoyed it. My daughter also got a strawberry yogurt shake, and they had samples of their oolong and jasmine iced tea which was FANTASTIC. They also have games to play like uno and jenga - we played a few rounds and it was so fun! They also serve a ton of different Korean style hot dogs and cheese sticks. They looked fun and I'd definitely come back to try. I have two young girls so I think this summer we will have to come back for a fun mid-day mommy daughter date! Also I love the entire strip center - Korean bbq and another dessert place just opened up. You could literally go sample stuff from all the places nearby and make a date out of trying something new."

Han C. "Can't believe no one has reviewed this location yet! I live right next door to a SMD, but this one is worth the drive because it offers breakfast tacos and burritos (with choice of sausage, bacon, turkey bacon, chorizo and potato), migas, and other breakfast plates, in addition to kolaches (small and jumbo) and the regular standard donut fare. I ordered one bacon + egg + cheese taco to try today ($2.49), and it came with a tiny cup of homemade green salsa. SO GOOD! Definitely going back for a burrito next time (which is just $4.99). What a surprise find in the Design District!"
