Great day not soon forgotten, at Whitey's with the locals. March 2012.

Ok first off the other reviews are correct if you are not from the area they will check you, if you don't have thick skin do not walk through the door. If you can take a joke and give it back a bit they will leave you be. That being said I spent three nights in Boston and will be coming back to Boston to come to this bar. It is what southie used to be, like stepping back in time the ultimate dive bar. The bartender Danny is good craic friendly (eventually) and cares about his job. I didn't have any problems anywhere cheapest Guinness in Boston I found. Great bar! Thank you to all the guys I met and played darts with! Great craic!

This place holds a special spot in my heart, and I desperately miss it. If you're looking for a bar with a rich history and unforgettable people, Whitey's is it.It's a Southie institution in the truest sense of the word. I don't know your crowd, but I could always count on an adventure. On multiple occasions, bringing non-Southie friends here ended with us LITERALLY riding to the hospital in the back of an ambulance or being escorted elsewhere by the BPD. It was wild, unpredictable, and absolutely fantastic. One night, a guy showed me pictures on his phone of Uday Hussein's palace, taken by his brother who served in the army--he himself would've served too, but he was doing time for a 'misunderstanding.' Another time, while I was in the bathroom, a patron paid me the best compliment ever by telling my wife, "You better bang him tonight, he's a cool guy!" That's the kind of place Whitey's is--it's raw, real, and full of characters Hollywood can't make up. It's literally everything that the best damned neighborhood in America is supposed to be.It's gritty, it's fascinating, and it's straight up legit. Whitey's isn't for the faint of heart, but if you can handle it, it's a place you'll never forget. I miss it because it's authentic, non-bougie Southie--it's not vineyard vines and million-dollar condos, it's unpredictable nights and incredible stories. It's not everyone's ideal bar, but for some of us, it absolutely is. Here's hoping it lives on for a thousand years so that Southie never loses its edge.

The ultimate dive bar. Drink some Ice Pick vodka and cheap beer. The place isn't exactly "pristine" , but you'll have a great time.

Great bar focused on drinks and conversation. Definitely a local joint but we felt welcomed. Prices were reasonable. Service was spot on.

It's a bit raw and probably at the extreme end of diviness. It's intimidating at first glance. Everyone was friendly. Cash-only and cheap. A couple of people walked in asking for Moscow Mules. The bartender told them that this is a stereotypical dive bar. She doesn't do those drinks. A couple of locals were watching football and didn't blink at the exchange. The foam is coming out of tears from the stools. It was a Sunday afternoon but the air was stale. It's a bar from another era, stuck in the South Boston past. Worth experiencing

Awesome dive bar with a great cast of characters. The Irish bartender was friendly, funny and just awesome. The patrons were hilarious, raucous and friendly. Not an appropriate place for women or the faint of heart. I had an amazing time!!!!

I don't generally give high reviews for dives , but this one was definitely dirty . One of the men next to me was mumbling nonsense to himself , while the guy next to him was probably homeless . Carved into the bar are people's life stories , or just their shitty day that was taken out on the bar top . Down at the other end I had 2 trashy girls who may or may not have been on meth . The beer was cheap and the service was fine . Not a bad option if you are in south Boston and want to mix with the locals in the area . Not a good option for first dates.

My favorite bar in Boston. Possibly the best dive bar I've ever been to. The locals greeted us with open arms!
