Amazing steak and great atmosphere. Worth the drive out here. Servers were friendly and the price is right.

Cute little place in a cute town. Stopped by while checking out the Wendish museum and painted church nearby. This place was really good. The beer was ice cold, like ice crystals in it, cold. The fried pickles are big sandwich slices! Super crispy. Kids had burgers and were super juicy. My husband and I had ribeye steak sandwiches. Cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Will 100% go back.

Excellent food, and value. This is a real local favorite. Be prepared to wait for a table. The dress is casual. It's not super fancy. It's a family and friends spot. Slow down a bit and enjoy. The service is great but again when they get busy, you have to be prepared to chill and go with the flow. It will be worth it.

This restaurant isn't too far from my house, but I can get there in a day or less. The restaurant was started by a local Winchester good ol' guy, Mr. Prince B. Murphy. He propelled the business to the top with atmosphere, because the business is inside an early 1900s mercantile & dry goods store in downtown Winchester, Texas. He served the greatest food ever & his bubbly personality was if you didn't like Murph, it was your fault. He knew what people wanted and how to cook it. Fried catfish, the most yummy chicken fried steak which one person simply can't eat the complete large serving for under $10. Ribeye and T-Bones are some of the finest cuts of meat they serve. Wonderful hamburgers tasting like the meat came from the market. Then we all received the sad news, Mr. Murphy was either closing or selling his steakhouse. It was sold to another gentleman who, to say it lightly, "Caused the business to suffer and ran the restaurant into the ground." He even changed the name to The Winchester Steakhouse. Since I know everybody and dont want to hurt anyone I will say we were glad when the second owner finally sold the business. We all had memories of how Mr. Murphy grew the business. A local couple who are so friendly and wonderful, bought the business and they are friends of Murphy. It wasn't long the establishment was flourishing again as none other than its original name "Murphy's Steakhouse" and best eating place in all of Fayette County, or even Texas for that matter. You can eat in a 100 plus years ago atmosphere, hear the frequent freight trains pass and don't miss the best homemade baked beans, a cold bottle of Ziegenbach and a meal where leftovers are enough for lunch the next day. Thanks for being the greatest little steakhouse in Texas. Better get there early because there is often a waiting list.
