New Owner, Therese, a Fort Worth native does a lovely job as proprietor. The this and that: 5/5 As advertised. Curbside appeal. Beautiful views on a serene welcoming porch serenaded by gulls. Fishing piers a plenty steps from the property and speaking of property, a new pergola for picnicking with a view. In comparison to the Luther, this is a 5 for a stay, but with even better vistas in this busy cattle, ranching AND sleepy fishing town by the bay. This B&B is former Victorian era school which offers nostalgia and a delicious home cooked breakfast on china, replete with coffees and teas to choose from. Walking in the house first floor is a virtual tour of artifacts and photos of a previous century and days gone by. Real wood floor with a cacophony and cadence all to its own. Additional rooms replete with tables and seating are welcoming. If you look closely in the breakfast room, you will see a framed photo of Anthony Bourdain, of "Parts Unknown", smiling in front of this very Peaceful Penguin. Stairs await with a short climb to the second or third floor. Rooms are clean and comfortable. We had a bayside view. Pretty nice!Yelp can guide you to restaurants to choose from. Don't miss Danny's Seafood Restaurant. It's a few minutes drive from your stay. A local favorite. You can also do a five minute walk to a near by convenience store (replete with all the essentials one would find at a shore town with tackle, refreshment and a bonus, to go Mexican and Vietnamese food). It's claim to fame it's a trusted family spot called "The Point" and where you will also find Mr. Anthony Bourdain signed his name. So, if you are lucky enough to get a reservation at the Peaceful Pelican, please do. Or you can take a gander where Hollywood's Golden age legend, Lana Turner and friends danced and entertained the night away at the wind swept Luther Hotel once host to a busy music hall and lively dancing pier now left for the watery floor and memory books. Please Note: Of the offerings in the area to rest, this may be your best bet.

So I practiced my French with a native Parisian family, entertained a couple from Croatia (and their Houston buds) by playing piano & singing in the front parlor, and sat on the roof every night overlooking the bay and listening to the dogs of Palacios.Yeah, kind of surreal. Add on top of that Edith, who is a great combination of hostess and ambassador for the town, and you have an experience that's just a wee bit out of the ordinary. For starters, Palacios (pronounced: pah-LASS-yes) is a quaint, unspoiled town that is probably going to get destroyed at some point by unscrupulous developers who prey on the locally well-meaning but unprepared town council. For the moment, it's a throwback beach community that should be experienced before it's turned into stack-a-shack land. And this is an awesome place from which to check it out.Edith came here from Cleveland (via Houston and then Seattle, if I remember correctly), and it's a good guess she made a lot of lifestyle changes to get to this point. She's not just running a B&B, she's running a history lesson, a retreat, and a social outreach. She knows the area, and she knows how to entertain and make you feel welcome. We were originally going to stay in one of the 2nd floor rooms, but when we saw the 3rd story suite with the access to the rooftop, we were sold. The tub with the champagne bubbles was interesting, but being hot tub owners, we might not have been as enamored as others might be. (And it was loud.) But the bed we chose was very comfortable, and the windows in all directions gave a spacious feel to a pretty darn spacious place. And yes...having a piano in the front room that was open to play and entertain....well, I hope that we made some Croatians feel a wee bit better about America than perhaps they might have otherwise.

We arrived and had detailed instructions on what to do. That was very helpful. We stayed about 4 days on the top floor with access to the top deck above. There was a fire pit out front with chairs. A greenhouse. And lots of cats around they care for. So if you habe an allergy just let that be known. We all love cats so that was a plus for us at least. The room was beautiful. It had Plenty of windows to look from. It had table with chairs a small fridge and microwave. No T.V. but if you wanted to watch T.V. really no need to be there then. Kinda defeats the purpose. The air conditioning in that room can get very cold. Which personally we loved. The house was always cool anyway. The claw foot bath tub and walk in shower was a great touch. There were games to play. Plenty of electrical outlets as well. We were definitely comfortable. Now the breakfast was AMAZING!! Paula and Esmeralda are the kindest people. And terrific hosts and cooks. The food was delicious. They waited on you better than any restaurant I've been to. They also sold mugs, homemade jam, soaps, ect. They really cared for their visitors. I had a party of 6 and we all loved our stay there. We still talk about it till this day. Made great memories. We will be going back for sure. Thank you Peaceful Pelican.

Palacios was an unexpected treat. The Peaceful Pelican staff helped me in every way and fed me a hearty and delicious breakfast. The facility is kept sparkling clean and renovated. My expectations were exceeded and I found a great new vacation spot with wildlife, history, culture, friendly faces, peaceful waters and GREAT Vietnamese food.

A quaint and beautiful bed and breakfast in the sleepy fishing town of Palacios. Just down the street next to the bay is a cozy Victorian house named the Peaceful Pelican. In it, you will find a lower level filled with comfy chairs and places to sit and chat. Inside the rooms (or at least in the room I rented when I was there) are Sleep Number beds (NICE). Coffee and tea bar is right in the dining room. The morning brings about delicious creations from the kitchen - we had some tasty migas and fresh-squeezed orange juice. The front patio has a fire pit and more places to sit and enjoy that view. Claw footed bathtub was beautiful, even if the shower was a bit small for someone of my stature. Paula the innkeeper is friendly! The Peaceful Pelican is clean and quiet, but it is an old house and has some of the concomitant squeaks and groans. And although some of the charm comes from the rustic décor and vibe of the place, a few things (chipping paint, broken chair) seemed a bit more shabby than chic. That said, I did enjoy my stay there and would recommend it to anyone going to Palacios!

So nice and cozy! I wish I could've stayed for longer! Wonderful breakfast and wonderful conversation with the "substitute" innkeepers while the main one was away. Our weekend there provided much needed relaxation- and an engagement! We will be back!

My family of four stayed one night in The Peaceful Pelican's magnolia room while visiting family in Palacios. We completely loved every moment of our stay! The king-sized (I think!) sleep number bed in the Magnolia room was comfortable for my husband and myself, while my small kids enjoyed a roll-away bed. Paula, the owner and innkeeper, graciously offered a second roll away bed for the children but we preferred to bunk them together as they like to watch movies together before bed while traveling. The view from our room overlooked the bay and was a stupendous sight in the morning. I will take that sunshine over an alarm clock any day! However, my favorite feature of the room was the bathroom - it had a giant claw foot tub, a hot shower, and lovely shampoos and soaps. Thank you Paula for a wonderful stay! We will definitely return the next time we find ourselves in Texas.

What a great place! The hosts were lovely and the breakfasts were delicious. We stayed in the sea breeze suite, which was a little duplex at the back of the property. We will definitely be back!
