If you like authentic barbecue , you better try it out. I got the Jonny's special which is a sample of everything and beans and potato salad. Off the beaten path , which I always look for. Can't beat this place.

The Bar-B-Q Man is always off my radar, but when it is on it, it is a nice treat.Let me explain: It is located on the industrial side of town off of IH-37; near plants, refineries, and other commercial operations that centralize around what is commonly referred to as "business parks". As such, it is only open Mon. - Fri., with hours geared towards their blue-collar hard-working patronage. Since I work on the other end of town, I rarely get a chance to come here unless it's a day off or I'm meeting there for a work gathering.In any event, it's fantastic South Texas barbecue! Rather than describing it, I'd ask you to just look at some of the pictures and judge for yourself whether or not it looks legit.It's been around since 1977 (according to their website), and it looks like it both on the outside and inside. That's also what makes it such a nice treat.At any rate, when you are passing through or in the area, consider giving them a shot. I hear they also do catering for both on-premise and off-premise events, so keep that in mind as well.

Visited this place on 12-04-2024. I arrived at 4:30pm and there was only one family dining in. I ordered my food and it was well worth it. The sausage was excellent and the brisket was moist. The ribs were just a bit dry but the taste for everything was great and best of all, the food was nice and hot.

brisket sandwich was very flavorful, tender and juicy. BBQ was a bit dry. Sides were pretty good, but the beans had a strong chili powder taste that could have used some cumin to balance the bitterness of the chili powder. overall good quality and value. the service was decent enough, the guys cutting meat were really nice. dining room was clean and neat, looks like it hasn't been updated in 50 years, but that adds to the charm.

I had a light lunch so I can eat bbq for dinner. There were not a lot of bbq places open on a Wednesday, so choices were limited. It was early on a Wednesday night and the parking lot was empty. That should've been my sign, but the restaurant was located in an industrial park so I thought that might have been the reason. The decor was very dated and brown. The service not enthusiastic considering we were the only two people other than the staff there. My partner and I ordered the 2-meat plate with beans and potato salad as my sides. The spicy sausage was good, but not spicy. The rest of the meat (brisket and ribs) tasted like they were cooked earlier and just left under the heat lamps to die a slow death. It was just average, lacking in flavor, the bbq sauce was okay, and didn't care for the sides. I left most of my brisket uneaten and wasted $19.95. Maybe it was an off-day...

Waking distance from the Hampton, but don't do it. Typical Texas barbecue joint. Order at the counter and collect your tray at the end. I had the special with ribs, sausage, and brisket. Just great. I will look for hot sauce next time, as the provided sauce was tasty, but medium heat. Sides of potato salad and baked beans were very good. Additional complimentary bar with pickles. Onions. Salsa available. I mixed the sals with my beans and it was heavenly. Only down side is the location( convenient for I35, but scary), and the interior not updated since 1974.

Best BBQ in Coastal South Texas. Be sure to request how you like it served. Friendly and nice workers.

The food was good, turkey was very tender brisket was a bit fatty but good. The people are fantastic very friendly great service. It is otherwise very typical of a Texas BBQ joint, but if you're craving it's a good first choice

We Came From Houston To Visit Family . Our Birthday Girl Wanted BBQ And This One Was The Only One Open. So Glad We Stopped We All Loved The Food . We Definitely Will Be Back. Also Glad The Guy Behind The Counter Recommended The Banana Pudding For Dessert Our Kids Loved It!
