Tacos El Plebe

Atmosphere was cool. They have fans everywhere outside - we sat under a fan, and it kept us cool. Also fans to keep the bugs off the food.I got the 5 taco dish. It was pretty good. The beans they serve complimentary with each meal were really good. Our party also got the nacho platter and that was delicious.Our waitress was great - but it was busy and sometimes it took a while to get her attention (not really her fault - they were slammed). We were in town for a wedding, but I would come back - might try their giant quesadilla next time.

We have had our share of tacos from all over. That said, we weren't too impressed with these. We had a papa asada and the taco sampler. If you're coming because you want great tasting street tacos? Keep driving. If you're coming for a nice evening with friends and a few adult beverages on the side, then this may be your place. They offer some seating indoors. Outside is where the fun is! They have plenty of picnic style benches on artificial turf. They have a small enclosed bar for your beer. A stage for live music. Overall, nice place.

The service, food and ambiance did not disappoint. We started with a nice cold Michelada and it was huge and refreshing. We started with the complimentary beans and they were phenomenal. I actually would have been fine with a bean refill but I convinced myself to move onto another menu item. I had carne asada tacos and my friend had shrimp tacos. We also shared a small potato and it was all delish. Our server Jair was very pleasant and very attentive. We look forward to returning the next time that we are in town.

Where to even begin? Based on reviews we decided to give this place a shot while we were in town. I'm not a big street taco fan (my wife is) - I've had many and they've always been just ok. That changed today! My wife and I agree that these were by far THE best street tacos we've ever eaten AND 1 of the top 10 meals we've eaten, and we've eaten all over the world.The place is a food truck that built a restaurant and entertainment space around it! There is indoor seating and outdoor.we don't speak Spanish and most of the staff don't speak English but they did a superb job of overcoming that and even making recommendations. We started with the beans - they had meat and cheese and were phenomenal - the flavors and textures - I could make a meal of just the beans. Thankfully we didn't do that.We each ordered the taco sampler which has 5 different tacos. I dis the step up and made 1 of mine shrimp. The presentation was top notch. Our waiter asked if we wanted onions and cilantro - I love cilantro, so we said yes. The onions were grilled and caramelized and came in a pile on the side. I would have left them there except my wife tried them and told me I had to try them. Whoa! Taking onions to a new level! The flavor was beyond anything I've had in onions. I put some on my tacos, and I had several forkfuls just like that! The salsas all had really good flavor - each was different but great and each had some heat. I am totally a salsa snob - I admit it. These were on par with the rest of the meal - great!The tacos - an El Rojo Quesadilla; El de Asada Quesidilla; shrimp; El Plebe; and chicken with sautéed pineapple.The corn tortillas were perfect - not too dry and not too moist. Each of the meats was perfectly prepared and flavored. Every bite was a treat. I have never had a shrimp taco stuffed with so many shrimp - seriously! I was wary about the chicken and pineapple because, I don't like pineapple it on food. Tonight was a first - a perfect combination! From now on, any other street taco will almost certainly be a disappointment and we live too far from El Plebe (3 hours) to come back on a regular basis. But for those who live nearby or are passing through - you are REALLY missing out if you don't try this place!

Gramma, who's been living in the Philippines for the last 10 years, visited the 956 for vacation & wanted some tacos. We took her to El Plebe because we felt like it was THE perfect taco place to go to if you've been deprived of 956 Mexican food for a decade. Atmosphere is great, they've added misters for the hot summers, little water fountains, and they keep the stray cats fed which is very sweet. Service is fast and friendly, and they have indoor seating as well. The parking lot is always packed on weekends, especially at night since people like to go for the drinks and live music. I always get the beef birria tacos with the cucumber lemonade and they never ever disappoint. It's definitely a unique vibe compared to the other restaurants here.

Food - I got the 5 taco sampler (Sampler Plus) which turned out to be a good amount of food. I was pretty stuffed after. Taco-wise, I started on the right and made my way left. Loved the first 3 that I tried - I think it was their El Plebe Taco, Barbacoa, and Al Pastor. The other 2 were a bit too peppery for me. All the salsas were good. Fair warning, the red creamy one has some fire to it. Service - The servers were attentive. I had one spoke in English and another only in Spanish. They made sure to check on me from time to time. Ambiance - I sat outside right in front of the food truck. It was nice and casual. It's a plus that they have clean restrooms. Location - I'm not from the area but I was in central McAllen and this place seem to be in the general vicinity. Parking was good but I was also there on a weekday. I think I read somewhere it can get pretty packed on a weekend so plan accordingly. Overall good. It got me curious enough to want to try other things on their menu and bring my husband back to try too. I'm in between a 4 and 5. Rounding up.

I've heard that the best tacos in TX are on the border, and these are amazing! Incredible atmosphere with the taco truck and beer garden, and the food is so good. I ordered five tacos so I could try all of their specialties. Service, food and beers are excellent. Might have to come back again tomorrow.

These are the BEST tacos I have EVER tasted! I ordered the Taco El Compa and was blown away. Very simple and to the point, the tacos reminded me of Grandma's house. The meat was so lean - little to no fat at all - and had incredible flavor! The salsa that came with them was on point too, the perfect spice level. To top it all off, I got the pepino agua fresca and it was soooo refreshing and light. This place is a must-try!
