6 years later and I got talked into going back today. Club sandwich with steak fries. Figured they couldn't screw that up too bad... WRONG. 4 slices of bread, single layer of bacon, single sheet of BS ham, single sheet of BS turkey, and that same bull crap lettuce and tomato they serve as a salad. Steak fries were all the burnt nubs. Nope. Still done. El Jardin closed but go to Taqueria Jalisco or Side Door Cafe if you can catch them open. Hell go get churches chicken, McDonalds or whataburger before Stricklands. Not worth your time.

Wow!! A gem in a small Texas Town. Right off Hwy 281 as we traveled from El Paso to south Texas. Old fashioned service! American classic plates like chicken fried steak, and authentic Mexican cuisine with spice combinations that remind me of my childhood. The nicest waitstaff. Chips and salsa come out first. Desserts look so yummy, but we were too full to even try them. The restaurant is an old fashioned western paradise. Even the clean restrooms are western wonders. We are returning to eat here before we travel out of the area.

So it's a small town eats type place. The hours everywhere are wrong. Attached is the current sign. There was some crazy explanation about owners changing and menus not coming in, blah blah. We saw six couples turn around when they noticed it was closed. Food was eh. Chicken fried chicken was alright, it was all equated to a TV dinner by a few in our party. The fajitas were not so great, oily, skillet fried. Then canned boring beans. Tortillas were homemade. The salad is a small pile of shredded lettuce, more of a garnish. The chips and salsa were good. And for three small meals, it was over $50. So not worth it. The waitresses were all very polite and helpful, the place was clean.

This is a decent small town diner. I'll always stop in when I'm in the area. Today I had a chicken fried steak (2 pieces) which comes with steak fries and salad. Everything is served on one plate including the salad. So, basically the salad was the same lettuce and tomatoes they use for tacos. This is not my idea of a salad...but won't mark them down for this. The steak fries were of the frozen variety and good just right. I was really impressed with the chicken fried steak. It reminded me of something you'd cook at home and I could tell it was fresh and hadn't been frozen. It was covered in a nice peppered white gravy. The service was good and I have no complaints.

The food was hot, fresh and delicious. Service was prompt. However, my CC was hacked within 4 hrs after paying for my meal. (08/08/2023). My CC company traced it to this location.

Great chicken fried steak with yellow gravy!!! We dont know why people rate this place average ... only place that agreed to work over time to serve 100 meals to our field personnel on Thanksgiving day!
