Stanley's General Stores

Came to the Matagorda, TX area for a little family vacay staying at a cousin's quiet getaway. He suggested coming to Stanley's for a meal but this place is a full blown store and eatery. Lots of stuff to buy down their aisles from souvenirs, minor groceries and fishing gear. Local wines for sale but unfortunately the staff on duty could not tell me how it was but I bought a bottle anyway. Gorda's Grill is located inside and let me tell you if you wanted a place like McDonalds go to Bay City. Otherwise be prepared to wait and I'm telling you good food is worth the wait. For a little over $30 I bought 3 burgers, 3 drinks (no refills), 2 fries and 1 onion rings. Everyone was happy with their food and completely satisfied. I gave four stars because I'm a stickler about people knowing what their products are like that they are selling. More items such as local goods would sell better especially to tourists.

The food here is alright. It's quick and on the cheaper side. It's alright for something light for breakfast or lunch before you head out to the beach. Convenient location right next to the shell motel so I can just walk over there from my room.

Third time to eat at the grille but this time I ate there instead of carry out . I ordered multiple shrimp basket all were short 3 shrimp each . This time I ate there and counted before I ate . I brought to their attn and they said they thought I was getting a po-boy . I was curious where the bread was and better yet I didn't know you got a po-boy with tails on the shrimp . I guess if you rip enough people off on each meal you can make an extra buck . What a scam ! Make sure you count how many shrimp you get

Food to prepare for lunch and dinner should be bought anywhere else but here. Thus place is the only place to buy your beach pass and is rifht on the way to the beach, and thatbis its only appeal. A boxbof shells and cheese was over six dollars. Go sonewhere else to buy food.

Stanley's has everything from breakfast tacos to fishing stuff to cold beer to surf wax to ice cream to old pictures you can look at to a nice bathroom to caffeine to sandwiches to beach permits to fishing licenses to sunglasses to hats to hot sauce to mustard to iPhone charger chords to bottled water to bait to coolers and so on and so forth.They have everything you need. Friendly people too.

This is a great resource for when you're in Matagorda and need supplies. It's a well stocked grocery store plus other essentials. We also tried the breakfast tacos, a muffin, and a cinnamon roll. Those were all just okay.

Man, I just had the best ever chicken tender lunch I think I've ever eaten. The general store has a little restaurant in the back. I was deciding between the 1/2 lb cheese burger that looked awesome as it was grilling or the chicken tenders. Oh my gosh they were honestly the best. The French fries were delicious and hot. So good.

Stopped to eat at the restaurant, waited for 45 minutes. When I asked if are food was going to be ready soon the girl proceeded to tell me that they are busy and what do I want her to do. I told her, I'm just asking because we have been waiting for 45 minutes, she then very rudely said fine I will just give you a refund. I have been shopping at this store for 25 years. I definitely said a few choice words at this point, but who wouldn't after being treated so poorly . After this experience I will never walk into this place again.

Young lady at the counter was very rude and disrespectful and ran me off after I simply asked for a price of a item after I left I called the manager and she was very rude about it as well. Don't recommend this store.

Warning....there may not be a restroom available. Here is the rest of the story. We went to eat at The Grill on a Saturday at 7pm due to their claim the "best burgers around". So while waiting ~30 minutes for our food I needed to go to the restroom. I went into Stanley's and there were 4 cashiers and only one was working. I asked the kid leaned over on the counter watching tik tok if the restrooms were actually closed. I let him know we were eating next door. He confirmed they were closed (reminder 4 cashiers and only one working). I asked him how long they will be closed and he replied until tomorrow. I asked the guys at the grill what they do when they have to go and explained the issue. The only one that would talk said he "holds it until he gets home". I laughed - so you mean to tell me that all 10ish employees on a Saturday night have to "hold it until they get home"?The foodFries do not come with the mealsNo refills on drinks They did have a nice selection of condiments.
