Shorty's Place

So few restaurants offer things like calf fries or sweetbreads, and they didn't disappoint. Their appetizer salad is sooo good too, but they ask you what dressing you want as soon as you sit down, so be prepared! Very good house ranch. Also, I'm fairly picky with a good steak, and they nailed a perfect medium-rare.

I love this place, their food is delicious. As home cooked as you can get. Chicken fried steak chicken fried Chicken shrimp sirloin - it is all good!!!

There is nothing special about shorties unless you enjoy frog legs and calf fries. If you have to ask what calf fries ate it is moat likely they are not for you. The food is homestyle. The portions are reasonable for the price. The food is nothing spectacular. But you get what you order.One special note: they have a vegetable of the day and if you ask for it they will bring it for the table at no additional cost.

Very good steak and chicken fried steak, baked and fries were good. We're coming back with rest of family.

Stopped for a quick bite to eat and really enjoyed it... I had the grilled catfish with grilled shrimp, very good! And my hubby had the battered jumbo shrimp, he said they were also good! Friendly and fast service!

We have been driving by Shorty's Place for close to 2.5 years now whenever we head to our family's ranch in Kenedy. My mom has talked up Shorty's Place, and my husband even played in a golf tournament with the owner. It seems to be in the middle of no where, but only about 11 miles from Kenedy, which is not far at all. We came in on a Saturday evening, and I did not see an empty table besides the table we were seated at. We started with calf fries and fried pickles. Both were excellent, fried in a light batter and came with cream gravy. Now, I have never had calf fries, but I figured what the heck, I'll try them. They were pretty tasty, not much flavor to them, and texture was better than I was expecting. I would probably order them again. I ordered the patty melt, because, well, I can't pass up a patty melt when I see if on a menu of a small, divey restaurant. It was so good! The Texas toast was fresh, and the patty was grilled to perfection. The steak fries were fluffy yet had the perfect crisp to them as well. I tasted the Diablo Burger sans the bun, and it was tasty as well. But boy were those jalapeños hot! Whoa! Glad i had a cold beer to wash it down with. We also had an order of sweet breads, which again, I have never tasted, but obviously was feeling brave tonight. Sweet breads had more flavor then the calf fries, and I think they won me over. I will definitely be ordering sweet breads whenever I come across them on a menu.I did notice that Shorty's Place is for sale, I hope whoever buys it continues to serve the same menu. We received great service and everyone was friendly.

Smaller place but definitely has the old fashioned look and style of old western. With Knick knacks on the wall that are years old. Friendly staff and lovely services. Of course with the occasional wait do to lack of staff or over booked on customers. Food is well done only had a problem once with a missing side and haven't had a problem since. Recommend to anyone looking for a place to eat and is heading towards Kennedy.

The food was disgusting I hade hair in it The server was slow and rude And it just was not clean

We went there for lunch. The mushroom Swiss burger was good and it was a good size burger too. The server was good and attentive. The restaurant was clean and the AC was nice and cool.

Lunch on Mother's Day, extremely busy but service was great. Waitress was attentive and very quick. Food was great. Been going here for years.
