Probably the closest you can get to the beach in Port A. It's situated between mile post 15 and 16 on the beach. We somewhat got stuck for a week on our trip through the US in early March and this seems a perfect time to be there (=right before spring break). Don't expect luxury class hotel rooms but down-to-earth cabin style. But everything is clean and each room has a great balcony. Actually they have a webcam on their website sandollarsity.com which shows the view from there and photos of all the rest.

My husband and I went to Port Aransas in hopes to enjoy some quiet time on the balcony looking towards the ocean, soaking in sun, and reading a book. But, we didn't consider the time of year and that the beach would be packed with Spring Breakers. However, with how close this rental is to the beach, we could still hear the sounds of the ocean over the beach traffic. We stayed in the Dolphin's Cove room, which was neat, clean, and perfect size for us. The manager / owner was very nice and easy to get along with. We definitely would stay here again ... and next time it won't be during Spring Break. ;-)

This place is pretty awesome. It's RIGHT ON THE BEACH. We stayed in the Love Loft, which is right at the top of the totem pole, and it seriously felt like you were looking down at your own private beach. Amazing. I'm not sure about the other rooms, but the Love Loft also had a jacuzzi tub that was out of this world. So freakin' comfortable. The Love Loft is pricey, but you are paying for an amazing view, as well as not having to listen to anyone else walk up and down the stairs. The bed was extremely comfortable (it felt like a cloud...like I was seriously sleeping on some sort of cloud), and the shower and jacuzzi water got very hot. The jacuzzi tub takes a little while to fill up, so I would shower and everything first while the tub is filling. Also, make sure that if you went to the beach, you shower before fully before getting into the jacuzzi, or you will have some gnarly orange sand bubble floating around after you. And (I did not know this) but bubble bath and jacuzzi tub do not mix. I wound up with an 'I Love Lucy'' situation on my hands before too long. The room came with a microwave, a full refrigerator (there are ice cube trays, but no automatic ice cube maker), a full kitchen sink, and a few dishes under the cabinet that you can use at your leisure (they also provided dish washing soap for you to clean everything off). The TV was a 32" Emerson (I think that was it)..nothing to write home about, and the cable seemed pretty basic...but I'm guessing they figure you're going to spend most of your time either in the jacuzzi tub, or out on the beach to really notice the lack of TV programs. The other thing was that there is free wifi, but at the top of the hotel the wifi really sucks balls. I was only able to get one bar of wifi, and nothing would really load I switched to my phone and was again accosted by shitty service (T-Mobile)...the LTE kicked back up once we drove out past the Stripes gas station and more to the restaurants, but for the most part, my cell phone didn't get stellar service out here, which is to be expected. Weirdly enough, my service would peak at night, starting around 10PM or so, but during the day it was very spotty. We only talked to the front desk guy once or twice (Steven, I think it was) but each time he was very friendly and asked us how our stay was, and seemed genuinely pleased to know that we were having a great time.We will absolutely be staying at this place again, though we'll have to saving up..I think it worked out to about $303 a night for the Love Loft...we got there Wednesday afternoon (usually check in is 4, but since no one else had rented the room before us, they let us check in early) and we left Saturday at about 10:30 (check out is 12 PM).Keep in mind a few things: the jacuzzi tub is not heated, but the water gets very hot, so we just filled it up as needed. The AC works extremely well...we were not hot at all, which was surprising since you're at the very top. To turn the shower on you pull the spout on the faucet down..it took us about 10 minutes to figure this out. There is no regular housekeeping that you would expect at a normal hotel, so take your trash out daily (there are some huge trash cans right on the beach) and expect to clean up after yourself....no one is going to come in and fix up your bed, or wash out your tub (which was cool with us, more privacy, plus it's really not that hard to keep the place clean). Make sure you clean all the beach tar off of your feet (they have a sign in the room saying that tar and suntan lotion do not come off of the sheets, so you'll be charged for the replacement) they have a small shower to hose off on right next to the stairs, so take advantage. And finally, enjoy yourself. I really hope this place doesn't get bought out by some bigwigs, because it really is in a prime location, and I'm sure some chain place is just itchin' to get their hands on it.We will be back. For sure.

We've been to Port A a number of times over the years. This place is definitely high on our list.Pros:--50 yards to the ocean--No climbing over dunes, extra work, etc, to get to the beach--Great view; balcony overlooks ocean--Can buy beer and wine coolers by the bottle in the reception area--In town; only 5 minutes to restaurants, bars, shopping--RIGHT ON THE DAMN BEACH--Cheaper than the expensive condos at Mayan Princess, etc.Cons:--Looks kind of dumpy (but who cares, you're not there to impress anybody)--TVs in bedrooms but not living room--Not a fancy place, like the really nice condos --No pool--In-room fridges don't have ice makers

My family and I spent a great weekend at Sandollar Sity for father's day.The staff was very friendly. The accommodations were very comfortable and the rooms were clean. The location is ideal. We were just steps away from the beach and the view from our room was absolutely awesome!! Sandollar Sity has got to be one of the best kept secrets on the Texas Gulf Coast. If you are looking for privacy, easy access to the beach and stunning views this is the place!

We had a nice time at this place but apparently your supposed to leave the place spotless when you leave. We have kids and your on the beach. Sand was everywhere. We swept and all garbage was thrown. We were charged an extra night because we stayed at the beach until 5pm when the guy who answers the phones after hours told me it was ok to leave our stuff there and it would be no problem. I asked her to at least pro rate it and she refused to give back anything.

This was the absolutely worst place we have ever stayed at while visiting Port Aransas. The accomodations were extremely dissapointing (especially for the price $900 for only 2 nights). The floors are literally 2x4's, hardly luxurious hardwood floors- not even throw rugs! We all had to wear shoes the entire time for fear of splinters. They did not provide a frying pan, dish soap, scouring pad, trash bags, or papertowels and the broom is the size of my 2 year olds play broom. When we complained about this, we were told it should have had those items repeatedly and were treated like it was our fault that it didn't. The manager actually said as much because we had wanted to check in early (2pm). On saturday morning, we were trying to cook breakfast and that is when we called in our complaints about not having proper kitchen items, well, they didn't open until 10 so we were told we had to wait until then. So I had to pay $20 for a frying pan at the local grocery store. After 11 am, I went down because she didn't come up to even try to accomodate us and asked very politely if she would take the amount I paid for the pan off the bill and she can keep the frying pan, I was told, "oh no, I can't use teflon pans"- as if I NEEDED another one too!!!!! Then she steals a cast iron one out of another unit that was all rusty. When we asked for extra blankets (the bedspreads they have are so thin and cheap) we were told to turn the AC down then we wouldn't need the extra blanket. THEN, the power went out around 7pm, yes not their fault, HOWEVER, she leaves us with a small flashlight and takes off. And didn't tell us the water would be out as long as the power was out. The power didn't come back on until 3am- no calls to check on us, no concern what so ever, all they wanted was their money. So all I can say is there are hundreds of nicer places for the same or even less money in Port A. Also, being on the beach wasn't even worth it, it was too sandy, our cars got covered and all of our things. BTW, you have to take your own trash out to the beach trash cans, I felt like a criminal dumping trash on the beach.
