Craving pizza on our mini roadtrip, we decided to stop here after seeing such great reviews! Located in a nice sized plaza, there's plenty of parking and outdoor seating available. The inside of the establishment is smaller but has plenty of seating available. Service was great! Upon entry we were greeted and asked if it was our first time visiting. As it was, we received a run down of their service and menu items. I liked that the sizes were displayed for an easy visual. I love that the crust did not "wilt" when I picked up my slice. The sauce could use a little more seasoning but overall satisfying slice. My biggest complaint would be the pricing!!! I only now realized this is a franchise but such a turn off. One standard slice is $5.70. A personal pie, $15-$20. Needless to say, one family pie is over $30. Being a native New Yorker, this is not something I was expecting with the homage in their business name.

Walked in to a weird set up dining area. You think you have to place your own order because they have a monitor pointing towards you, directing you to start it. Employee rushed up and handed me a menu and told to have a seat , but then you still had to come back up to the counter to place your order. Canned and bottled drinks out of a box refrigerator that you grab yourself. Came back up to place my order, and of course, that infamous tip screen pops up when you already did most of the legwork to place your order and grab your drinks yourself. Pizza arrived at the table piping hot within a reasonable amount of time as they were not busy. Pizza was OK but nothing spectacular. Definitely did not meet up to the $30 cost for a 12 inch pizza for one person, including bottle of iced tea and bottle of water. Other small businesses in town offering similar menu items are definitely price more reasonably and better. Kitchen smells permeated the restaurant, made the entire restaurant smell stick to your clothes and following you home. Noisy fan over door never shut down made the experience less pleasant.

I ordered a lg cheese pizza, light on cheese and we'll done. I should have added heavy sauce. Not sure why so many pizza places think that almost non-existent sauce is the way to make a pizza, that's definitely not NY style. The lack of sauce made the pizza bland and dry. If they put more sauce on, it would be closer to NY, especially with the light cheese. So, there was no flop and the bottom of the pizza was crispy. The dough was thin and on the crackery side, and had a very tight crumb with a few very large air pockets. I think this is from a combination of under fermentation (mostly tiny air pockets) combined with folding the dough (the huge bubbles).If you want NY pizza, goto grimaldi's which is also less expensive. S&L is different than any other pizza in Corpus, and I suspect it's Kansas City style based on the crackery crust, but I've only been to KC once, and I had BBQ.
