We took the 3 -hour Whooping Crane & Coastal Birding boat tour. Great trip; highly recommended. The purpose of our weekend in the area was to see whooping cranes, and the company guarantees a sighting - they know where the cranes hang out and we saw at least a dozen pairs. We saw many other birds (the captain called them out) and dolphins. The boat holds at least 30 guests and has both open observation decks and enclosed seating below. Wear non-slip shoes and bring binoculars, a hat, and a jacket. There are small toilets on board, and we were served drinks and basic snacks. They have about a dozen loaner binoculars if you do not have a pair.

Our group of six had a fabulous experience with this company. After a near miss (we arrived at 7:31 am and the Skimmer was already leaving!) we boarded quickly and off we went to check out the Whoopers. I have done this bird tour several times and I must say this was the best yet. Great views of whoopers and other bird life. Captain Tommy is very knowledgeable just be aware that his sarcasm can catch you off guard. I recommend this "adventure" highly. You won't be disappointed. Just get there a little earlier than the departure time.

Captain Tommy and his crew (Kyle?, I think - sorry if I'm wrong on that) exceeded our expectations on our recent birding/boat trip into Aransas National Wildlife Refuge (2/2/25). They knew their birds and where to find them. But, that's only the beginning of the experience they provide. They are a fountain of knowledge about the birds seen and willingly share that with us guests. Captain Tommy is also very good about maneuvering the boat so that guest get the best views. And we were never rushed. They are also attentive to our ordinary needs - offering binoculars, snacks, water, etc during the 3hr trip. You can spend a lot more for individualized trips into ANWR. But, even with 24 other guests on the boat there was room for everyone to see the birds - and other wildlife. Well done!

Went on the Whooping Crane Tour yesterday, and it was spectacular. We saw dozens of Whoopers, and Capt. Tommy was able to get us relatively close to several of them. I got lots of good photos. Capt. Tommy also pointed out many other species along the way - I had a count of 40 species for the trip. Overall, a fun and worthwhile outing.

Embarking on the Whooping Crane & Coastal Birding Tour with Rockport Birding and Kayak Adventures was an unforgettable experience that I wholeheartedly recommend to nature enthusiasts and bird watchers alike. Departing from Fulton, Texas, this three-hour eco-tour aboard the Skimmer offers an intimate glimpse into the diverse birdlife of the Texas Coastal Bend. Captain Tommy's extensive knowledge of local bird species and their habitats enriched the journey immensely. His ability to identify and provide insights into the behaviors of the various birds we encountered showcased his deep expertise and passion for avian life. Throughout the tour, we were fortunate to observe a remarkable array of bird species, with sightings typically ranging from 30 to 60 different species, including the majestic whooping cranes. The Skimmer is thoughtfully designed for wildlife observation. The clean cabin features large windows that open from the seats, allowing for unobstructed viewing and photography. Additionally, the boat boasts observation decks on both the front and top, providing versatile vantage points for spotting birds and other wildlife. The provision of coffee and granola bars during the tour was a considerate touch, enhancing the overall comfort of the experience. For those seeking to explore the back waterways of the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, Rockport Birding and Kayak Adventures offers an exceptional opportunity. Their commitment to providing an educational and enjoyable tour is evident in every aspect of the journey. Whether you're a seasoned birder or a curious traveler, this tour promises a memorable adventure amidst the natural beauty of the Texas coast.

We went on the 9:00 AM bird tour of Aransas with Cappy Tommy and Kyle. It was a wonderful trip. I stood on the upper deck for ~ 3 hours and never had a dull moment. Most of the time I was entranced. My highest recommendation.Captain Tommy is so knowledgable about the local birds, fishing/crabbing/oystering industry. He spots birds and he briefly and succinctly walks through how to ID them. He is funny, witty and clearly loves what he is doing. We had binoculars, but they had loaners sets that were very high quality. First mate, Kyle, is a wonderful host. They had coffee and refreshments, even though the confirmation e-mail suggested they wouldn't. There was a nice restroom on board.
