Love LOVE love! This place is wonderful. Staff is friendly, the vet we saw both times is kind and takes his time. He explains everything so well without being condescending or judgmental. We are so glad we found this place for our fur babies!!

Just the best vets in the coastal bend. Both Dr. Fontanez, and his wife Tammy, are so personable and kind, heartfelt docs that sincerely care! I can't say enough good about their staff, and the great environment there.

I grew up in Portland and have come to this location with dogs and cats as long as I can remember. The Drs. Fontanez (Rafael & Tammy) have owned the clinic for decades now, but I still think of them as the "new" vets. Although I live in North Texas now, when I'm here for the holidays or other family gatherings, I always bring my fur babies here when the need arises. They provide consistently excellent service and straightforward, yet compassionate, advice. Their prices are a little more than my vet in Allen, but still reasonable. Well worth it for the piece of mind!

Dr. Rafeal is an amazing vet! He has taken care of my dog, Dixie for years and nuetered my Netherland dwarf bunny when I was ready to bring him in. I was nervous about nuetering him because he was less then 1.5 lbs but he was already 8 months and needed to get fixed. My bunny healed great and Dr. Rafeal gave him laser therapy on his wound. I would highly recommend taking your fur babies here!

I have been taking my dog and cats here for over six years. I trust Dr. Fontanez over all other vets I've taken my pets to over the last twenty years. He is kind, patient, and honest. His staff is friendly and helpful.

We are residents of Austin, Texas and were visiting nearby Rockport, Texas on vacation. Our Puppy Luna had an accident and was hit by my brothers car as it backed out of the driveway. Needless to say, this was terrible and my immediate assumption was that we were looking for a place to go put her down. No Vet in Rockport would see her. All sending me to an emergency vet in Corpus Christi. We noticed Portland Veterinary Hospital was right off the hwy on the way to Corpus. We popped in there and the staff was amazing! So very professional and courteous. It was Friday afternoon at 5:30 and they were so welcoming, comforting and generous with their time. Dr. was thorough with her and was able to provide us comfort that she in fact may just be ok. Gave us pain meds, antibiotics and the checkup and we were out the door for under 60 bucks. (She would have needed xrays the next morning as they were booked up for that afternoon)... so we brought her back to Austin for her vet to do them. She is doing well for what she went through. Seems like maybe the car clipped her backside as she has a little limp. For those first few minutes however, as she was in shock and scared... we thought she was a gonner. Anyhow, as many pet owners could imagine... The Portland Veterinary Hospital was a blessing of a find in a time of need. I would HIGHLY recommend them if your ever in that coastal area. Worth the drive to see them.

First visit was in 2017, shortly after moving here, late on Friday.Came in with pet cat that was in very bad shape, life threatening issue.Doctor R stayed late on Friday night and saved "Will" - who we picked up the next day. Since then Will has been fine, but Dr. R saved other pets for us multiple times.

We are staying on Mustang Island with our French Bulldog, who got an UTI and needed to see a vet asap. We called three and none could see her for days, the emergency vet has bad reviews, so we got "we'll fit ya in" from these kind folks. The waiting room was packed but everyone was happy and patient, including the staff! After waiting an hour+, we we're seen and the vet was super! He spent a long time with us, hooked us up with meds and we could not be more greatful to every person at Portland Vet Hospital, yesterday, including patients and their humans.
