Soul Good II!Once again folks of Corpus Christi a change of culture is in the air with great cuisine. As a Veteran-owned business formerly Portis Kountry Kitchen the upscale southern food PKK serves iconic southern dishes that please the palate. Recently, we had guests from across the world visit and they wanted to try southern dishes that they have tried once before but have not had it for some time. The bell rang in my head instantly, and recommended PKK for dinner. I explained the cuisine and even had my son speak of his experience dining at PKK. To our surprise it was live jazz night with Joe Holland Quartet playing. We ordered everything they had since no one could make up their minds. Fried pork chops smothered with gravy, Fried Fish, Fried Chicken, collard greens, cornbread, five-cheese mac and cheese, green beans, and many slices of their sweet cornbread. We even saved room for dessert! Damn it was Good!Everything was delicious and worth the extra calories. But what made our experience so memorable was the service and the ambience. I emphasis Service because our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. She read our vibe and stoked the fire. Amazing woman! As true foodies that we are, and one who travels here and abroad it is really nice to have a restaurant that offers good food and good service consistently. My foreign friends agree, after traveling from one city to another they mention PKK often. That is a testament of Good Ole Southern Hospitality.

The food is not the same now that they are in the new location. The old spot had quality food and the friendliest staff. On our visit to the new location, the food tasted very different and the restaurant itself was pretty dirty. We also didn't recognize any of the faces from the previous location.

Tastes like good southern home cooking. I got the fried chicken and it sure tasted like what my South Carolina grandmother used to make. Service was frequently by to check on us. We'll be back.

I am 100% black girl, well Ancestry.com might dispute that, but soul food is my jam. Recently, I was in Corpus Christi for work and I got to check out this local, soul food restaurant. This is a husband and wife duo with military roots who are cooking it up Southern-style at Portis Kountry Kitchen LLC.My colleagues and I ordered a number of dishes, but the standouts for me were the side-dishes. I absolutely loved the greens!!!! I ordered the fried chicken, macaroni & cheese, green beans, candied yams and peach cobbler. Personally, I enjoyed the sides more than the entree. Overall, we enjoyed the meal. At lunchtime, the restaurant was packed with locals. The service was just a tad slow, but the wait staff were friendly and accommodating.Next time you're hanging out in Corpus and you want to try something different, check out Porto's Kountry Kitchen.Y'all know how we do, you better go get you some.

This was amazing! I'm a carnivore so I am usually not impressed with low flavor. This place had flavor at a new level. The place is really cute and soft and inviting. Perfect date night place. The whole building is very interesting and worth a tour.

Great food and very friendly staff!Portis Kountry Kitchen is well deserving of praise cos of the wonderful soul food they prepare. The fried green tomatoes and pork chop are to die for along with the peach cobbler. Of course the fried chicken is also amazing. What a gem of home cooking this place is!

I was greeted by a hostess and proceeded to walk me and my daughter to the table right away. She told me to follow her, I couldnt hear her very well music was super loud so I stood at the entrance,. Until she made a sign to come over to the ither table. The male hostess started laughing hysterically either at me or the hostess . Thought that was very rude and inappropiate.. otherwise took a while to get served our food.. thought this place would have more variety.. only 3-4 different plates served daily.. not much variety.. took like 40 min to get served our food, its just chicken..place was not full..the menu had no prices which i thought was a red flag.. overall food was 3 out 5 stars.. doesnt compare to real southern food.. otherwise I wont be back.
