A tidy museum offering an abbreviated history of Port Aransas community. It's a quick walk through that won't demand huge hunks of time to peruse. Dawdling slow, reading placards, taking some pictures, & talking with the very friendly volunteer on site, it took only about an hour for me to see the displays on the lower floor of this Sears kit house from back in the day when a whole house could be a DIY project. Upper floor is admin spaces. If you're looking to fill a quick time slot in your schedule, this museum may well be your jam.

Absolutely fascinating history of Port Aransas on display. The folks that work here are all locals with great knowledge and stories. Thousands of photographs going back a 100 years to look through. Incredible artifacts to look at. They even have a gift shop with hard to find books and art for sale. This was the second time we've been there. This time they had a surfing display. The history of surfing in Port A goes back to the early 60s. I've been surfing for almost 30 years and I learned a lot. They had some really nice classic boards, memorabilia, artwork, stories, and tons of photos. We really enjoyed it.You should stop in here whenever you visit Port A. You will be blown away.

The Port Aransas Museum is an okay museum. I would recommend it to anyone into history and new to the island. It's a fun 30 minute or so stop. It's little, but I think they have done a pretty good job at getting the history and a bit of the island's culture into the building. It's in one of the original buildings from the island, which is neat. I wish we could wander around the home a bit more Currently, you can only walk around most of the first floor. They have a few interesting artifacts like one of the original Farley boats built at the local Farley Boat Works (or at least half of it right now), the beautiful light from the Port Aransas Lighthouse, and over 20,000 old photographs that anyone can look at on the computers located around the museum. The museum is run by local volunteers and is currently open 3 days a week (Thu-Sat), as of January 2017. It's also free to go in, so it helps with your vacation budget. I believe they are hoping to be open more days when the funding is available. I think as funding increases, the museum will continue to bloom into something bigger and better.I would recommend a trip to the museum to anyone interested learning more about the lovely Mustand Island and Port Aransas.
