Poor Man's Country Club

First, customers can smoke in this restaurant/bar. So if you can't be around cigarettes don't go. They do have a small area for No Smoking, we sat in that room. Waiter was nice, but it would have been helpful if he would have told us the items they were out of before we decided to order. After we were informed of the things not available we had to revisit the menu again. The table next to us left because they wanted fried shrimp and they were out. Food was ok. I got shrimp tacos (not fried), the taco consisted of a tortilla and 4 small shrimp. Thats it, no cabbage, no lettuce, nothing. They tasted ok, just literally 4 bites. I would choose different if I was back in the area again.

The food is OUTSTANDING! The Shrimp is the best anywhere I've had! Huge, hand breaded, seasoned perfectly! We sat at the bar and watched all the food come out and I'm coming back every week just to try different things! The atmosphere is good and the service is great (be patient, you're on the coast!) cold beer, great drinks. Now....if your not a smoker and you're gonna complain that they allow smoking AT THE BAR...don't come and complain. Life's too short (and I'm a non smoker, but I'm not gonna cry about it). They also have the NFL package so you can watch all the games on Sundays! We will be back alot! Ask for Sara! She's outstanding!

Served quickly, shrimp basket with hush puppies was fresh and hot. They also have a great tv set up for watching games.

Everything we ate was great. Steak sandwich, fried fish, peel em shrimp, chips and some other stuff and it ended up being like 60 bucks including the beers. I will be back next time im in rockport and would recommend to anyone thats looking for a cool spot.

There should be a warning that SMOKING IS ALLOWED in this place. The food was okay, until the first disgusting plume of cigarette smoke made it's way to my burger.Had it not been for that, I might have enjoyed my meal, but not so much.

I don't get to come down to Rockport as often as I would like to. But, every time I do, I make it a point and or ritual to visit this place, order a Cheeseburger , fries , and either a Dr. Pepper or a Vodka Sprite. Enjoy some food and maybe watch a game depending on who is on. Honestly I must've gone on some slow nights because the smoke smell is nearly non-existent. I bet you dollars to donuts its no where near as bad as "Rock Bottom". Either way both joints are great. "Poor Man's" has been around longest though, I could be wrong. The service here can be a little slow but the staff is polite. I tried the "Firecracker Slider and fries" and it was pretty good. Not disappointed at all. I was very satisfied.

I love their shrimp poor boys. I do not like their close slaw as it has no seasoning or mayo.. it just taste like cabbage.

We opted for takeout since Frodo is with us. Memorial Day weekend. The restaurant was not busy at 6:00 but probably too early for fishermen to come drown their sorrows. We both had tacos. I had the fish and my sponsor had shrimp. Pretty tasty, Lynelle McDowell Dye could only eat one.The interior was nice and allowed ample circulation space. I wish we could have dined in and enjoyed the atmosphere.

What a great place to catch the game. The crowd really got into it. They had several TVs around the bar, the sides and right in the center of the room.Service was decent. The food was a good variety of different options. I ended up with boneless wings and they hit the spot at a reasonable price. Drinks were cheap and the crowd was fun.I was visiting a friend and he told me this is a great spot to hang out and not get overcharged like several down the road will do.I enjoyed it and will definitely return to try their burgers.

A follow up on the service at Poor Man's. We recently returned due to a Celebration of Life get together. It has greatly improved even though there was a large turnout. Our server was courteous and attentive. We did not eat, so I can't comment on the food.
