Pollo Asado "El Gavilan Pollero"

There seems to be a tremendous amount of hype built up for El Gavilan Pollero, and I came there ready for some soft, tender, perfectly cooked chicken. What I ended up getting for my $10 1/2 chicken order was anything but.. The chicken was really over cooked, dry, and some pieces were especially difficult to chew. When pollo asado is done right the skin should just pull right off. This skin however had a lot of it black, burnt, and completely charred parts that were just inedible. The rice was severely under seasoned, bland, and bad. It's the kind of rice you don't even care to waste space in your stomach for. The serrano pepper was fine, but it would have definitely complimented the meal better if it were a jalapeño and added some sweet spiciness to the combo meal. The salsa/hot sauce was awesome, flavorful, and good heat. The beans I did enjoy, I thought the flavor profile was really enjoyable. The onion was perfectly done! It was grilled enough to soften it up but it still had that bite and good texture to it. All in all, a really lack luster lunch. The chicken was a serious let down. If you want the best pollo asado in town, go 4 minutes down the road to La Frontera for chicken that falls right off of the bone.

SO YUMMY! The chicken is Smokey and comes with a few sides as well as tortillas. I would come here more often if it wasn't a drive. 10/10!!! Please go try them and enjoy!!

This place is fabulous. The best chicken I've had in a long time. A half chicken order is enough for two people. As of today, half chicken is $10. Comes with rice, beans, corn tortillas, hot sauce, grilled onion, and lime wedge. Everything was flavorful.

Delicious. Absolutely delicious. A whole chicken with rice, beans, tortillas, and lime wedges is $13. Half a chicken is $7.50. You cannot beat that price anywhere. They used to be just a food truck sitting at a corner on Port Ave, but now they have opened a dine in restaurant in the building behind where they always parked. Always good food and good service. Closed on Tues and Weds.

Simply the best pollo asado ever!!! I've tried other imitators but nothing comes close to these guys. Flavorful, never dried out, and loaded with sides. They give you all your moneys worth here. Be sure to get extra salsa because it's amazing!

chicken was very dry and sides had little flavor. I really was hoping for good food but was very disappointed

Chicken was very thin with hardly any meat on the bone and was more jerky than grilled and flavorless. Beans were flavorless too. It's cheap but not worth the money you pay for it. Won't be back.

Want good bbq chicken? This is the spot for you!! The chicken is excellent and the prices affordable. The rice is excellent and beans are also tasty. If I could give them 10 stars I would.Must try!!!

Delicious! Comes with rice, beans, tortillas, limes, and onion for very cheap!! I wish I had a photo, but I finished it right away it was so good. Definitely recommend everyone try this place out, just make sure to call ahead for your order.
