Matas Cafe

I discovered Mata's café in 2023 and have eaten there regularly; sometimes weekly.I like that it is a small, family owned business and it is very simple and a comfortable café. I have had different dinner plates and have never been disappointed. The café is clean and comfortable. The service is always very good. Prices are reasonable. The café has WI-FI you can use; which to me is a big bonus as I do business while I am out and about.Thank you Mata family and staff. Rick, the burrito Gringo

I'll try and make this one short and sweet. Hands down the best Tex-Mex breakfast in the world! Next to my mother and grandmother some of the best homemade tortillas I've ever had! If you live in Atascosa/Wilson county this place is a must! Great service, friendly people, and good prices!! Small quaint clean, and a quiet restaurant. Everything on the menu is great. Lunch specials are amazing! If you have family coming into town skip Mi Tierras or TacoTaco and take them for a real treat and go to Matas!!

We'd never been here but were in town at lunch so we decided to try it. First, if you're looking for a fancy restaurant this place isn't it but if you're looking for good Mexican food - this is it.The chips were standard tortilla chips but the salsa was flavorful and with heat. I'm a salsa snob and my wife hates that I'm hard to please when it comes to salsa - this salsa passed the 'test'.I had the small (lunch) plate which came with a hard taco, cheese enchilada, rice, beans and tortilla. The beans had great flavor - definitely not from a can. I usually let the rice sit on my plate when I have Mexican food but this rice had a good texture and flavor. The taco was very good - the ground beef was moist and had good flavor. The enchilada was what I expect an enchilada to taste like. The tortillas were thick but very soft. My wife had carne guisada, cheese enchilada, rice beans and tortilla. The carne guisada was tender with a flavorful gravy!We will definitely be coming back! Again, a very unassuming place that has great food!

Dine in now. The salsa is too spicy. It needed salt. The chips are greasy. The waitress was going to give us menus from a table she just waited on. She was very nice about getting us sanitized ones. The enchiladas and the tacos were excellent.

Was ok not too much to pick from for breakfast the bacon was thick and off the hook it was alright ‍

This is a wonderful local place to have a great breakfast. The staff is awesome and very responsive to your requests. The breakfast tacos are wonderfully tasteful and filling. I have been here twice. The first time I had 3 breakfast tacos (chorizo and egg x2, bacon egg and potatoes) and a pancake. I did not eat again until 7:00 PM. The second time I had only 2 tacos, I added potatoes to both, and could not eat them all. The total for 2 tacos and a coffee was under $6. That is the deal of deals. I will be back when I visit family.

Hair in my breakfast taco today! As busy as this place seems to get, it'd be a good idea to clean, paint, spruce up, update, did I say clean? this place up! Have some pride of ownership ! Your kitchen should be aiming for the utmost cleanliness within, hair in the food you serve is not only gross, it should NEVER happen! You're getting a lot of competition coming into town, so unless you're retiring and closing up shop, step it up and be proud owners!

In my personal opinion "Terrible Service", wait staff spent the entire time speaking and what appeared to be gossiping with table of guests and ignored requests for condiments to complement the food. No drink refills for anyone at the table. . Food was cold according to all diners in our party and the children even said their food was worse than cafeteria food.

Great food excellent service! this place is legit Mexican food. Quesadilla was really good.
