The pan dulce at this bakery is first rate. The last time I went, I got a semita "especial" which is a version of semita that you have to order and is not always available. I was told its a recipe from a bakery that is now closed but was very popular over in the St. Peter's neighborhood. It was so good. Some people think that semita means "semite bread" and reflects the food and ethnicity of the early settlers of Northern Mexico and Laredo. There are tables and chairs in the middle of the panaderia and depending on what time of day you go, you might run into people you know who are enjoying good bread and coffee (the coffee is pretty good too.).
