Our check in process was speedy and the front desk lady was nice and friendly. There was a lot of people at the pool swimming when we arrived. There's plenty of parking available and the hotel was at their full capacity. Getting into my room was nice because the ac was nice and cold. We stayed in a king suite with a pullout couch. The pullout couch was nice until there was no bedding available in the room. So I had to go to the front desk and get bedding, pillows, and blankets. She was nice about it and got it for me right away. The springs in the mattress were a little rough. I felt every spring in the mattress when I spelt that night. I recommend just sleeping on the couch because that was comfier. My parents had a good night rest on their king bed. The house keepers the next morning were very friendly. The next night we arrived back late at night and we came through the side door. They keep a rock on the side to prop the door open instead of using your key to get in. I personally didn't care because I was on the third floor. If I was on the first floor then I would have been concerned. The breakfast was surprisingly tasty. They even had chorizo and egg tacos. I'm a major chorizo fan and I took full advantage of this. They had beans, waffles, cereal, oatmeal. The normal stuff for a free continental breakfast. It was a good start to the morning. I like the fast check out process through the app. Overall, we had a nice stay and the green mints in the lobby were tasty.

Let me start off by saying the management of this establishment is a joke I attempted to book a reservation and instead of sending me a conformation on whether of not the rooms were available. I got nothing no phone call no conformation email or anything. When I called the general manager Beverly to asked her why she billed my credit card when she knows I didn't stay in the rooms, she hung up in my face like a 2 year old. Then I called back and it went to voicemail, this is the general manager we're talking about here. I will contact the owner of this 2 star hotel to find out if this is how his managers act with all the guest. These are just a few items that I've come across staying at this gory hotel.

If there was a negative star rating, this would be the place that would get it. If you are going to Mathis or the surrounding area save yourself the frustration and stay in Corpus, or literally anywhere else. The correctional officers at the county jail are likely friendlier than the staff at the La Quinta in Mathis. As far as the hotel goes, I can only comment on the lobby because I never got to a room despite having a reservation for two that were made several months prior + multiple phone calls to both the hotel and the booking company to confirm our request. All we asked for was an adjoining room for our young children. I was understanding when I was told that it could not be guaranteed until we checked in although you would think with any semi modern booking system that could either be accommodated or a firm no given at the time of booking. Silly me. I'm stupid. So very very stupid as the staff implied at checkin. When I asked to confirm our room while I was being asked to sign I reiterated our request for adjoining rooms that was also noted on the reservation. The response, well not really response because it was not really directed to me but the remark made by the annoyed, unhelpful woman behind the counter was "ugh, he's asking for adjoining rooms. That's not gonna happen" (she hasn't even started clickety clacking on the computer yet. Wouldn't matter anyway, none of the staff was able to do literally anything beyond what the computer said. Maybe it was a read only computer? Maybe the keyboard was broken? I don't know but F*** me right? This was clearly my fault for booking through the website that had the room block for the wedding we are attending. F*** me indeed. I tried to be understanding and requested to cancel one of my two rooms as I was not going to put two children under two in a room by themselves. When we called several months earlier we were informed by both the hotel and the booking company that cancelling one room would not be a problem if we did not get the adjoining rooms we requested. F*** me again, that's impossible. The only way for me to stay here is to pay for two rooms and use one. All the reservation issues aside, I am a reasonable person but the demeanor, rudeness and attitude of the front desk staff was more than I could handle. If I wanted someone to shake their finger at me and chastise me like a child for attempting to purchase their services I would go to a dominatrix or something. That's not really my game either but bet I'd get better customer service. Long story short, save your time, save your money, and save your sanity by avoiding this hotel at literally any cost. I'm currently paying $420 not to stay here for two nights. Sleeping in lake filled with medical waste run by mental patients would be a better experience.Negative 3 stars.

I give this LQ a 4 Star because I was impressed with the cleanliness of the lobby, the dining room, the breakfast area, the hallway and my room. This is an older La Quinta that is not getting the renovation attention of the LQs in larger cities. But the decor is nice, the facility is very clean and the receptionists were very friendly, courteous and accommodating. My room was very clean and ready for our arrival. I used the LQ App to check-in before arriving. The young man at the reception desk was very friendly and helpful. The bed was OK, but I think the springs on one side are a little broken. Once I got into bed, it was comfortable, but it kind of made a broken spring noise when I first sat on it. The pillows are nice. Big white fluffy towels. Room paint appears fairly fresh. The A/C appeared to be one of the newer ones. It was very quiet with very little fan noise. I used the heat because it was a cold night in south Texas. It warmed the room comfortably and was quiet for sleeping. My only complaint about the room (129) was that the walk-in shower needs to be re-tiled and grouted. The shower was fairly clean, but very old and needs a total rehab. The furniture was older style, but adequate. Samsung TV (maybe 32"?), microwave, refrigerator. The bedside lamps were older style with no additional ports for electronics. This room did have the newer fashion bedside clock which had ports for electronics. Found a black sock that didn't belong to anyone in my family under the credenza in the bathroom, but that was only thing really out of place. This LaQuinta Inn has a big exercise room, washer/dryer on first floor. The reason this gets 4 stars instead of 3 is because the breakfast was just about the best LaQuinta Inn breakfast I have ever had in all of the LQs I have stayed in across the country. Hot food included scrambled eggs with bacon pieces (yes, you read that right - bacon!), homestyle fried potatoes and cream gravy, refried beans. Cereals included hot oatmeal with various toppings including brown sugar, raisins and granola. They also offer the mainstay of hard boiled eggs, muffins, bagels, toast and waffles.

So the door to the room they put us in looked like it had been previously pried open with a metal bar. A little creepy to start out your stay. If you get a 2 bedroom suite, be aware that it's not really a 2 bedroom suite. It's like the size of a standard hotel room with a sofa and then there's one small room attached with also a sofa. Based on the same standards at other 2 bedroom suites I've stayed at, this would be considered a 1 bedroom suite. The smaller room also had no TV which really sucked. With that said, the room could technically fit 8 people so it's roomy enough I guess. Breakfast was OK. Pretty standard breakfast, south Texas style with beans and tortillas added to the mix. Not bad but not my kind of breakfast. Kids enjoyed the cereal. The staff was OK. No welcome just "Hi" and that was it. There is a small sundry shop to get some basic stuff and junk food if your heart desires. The place is about a 10-15 min drive to Lake Corpus Christi. If you're just looking for a night or two and aren't expecting grand accommodations, then this place is fine. It's a step up from having to sleep in a tent for sure but a far cry from any nice hotels in a big city.

This place has a serious problem with fleas. On the tile floor, in the carpet, in the bed. We stayed for two nights out of necessity and were being eaten alive. Horrible. The breakfast was ok. The paint color is garish and not well kept. Service was good. Laundry machines were run down and parts were broken. Very thin walls between rooms. I heard the guy snoring next door.

Great location, nice staff, great ocean view. The hotel needs updating, and they could do a better job at cleaning our hotel had hairs in the bathroom and sand all over the floors .

This is the former Best Western/Mathis Inn and Suites, with a fresh coat of paint and a few decent upgrades. These upgrades are especially noticeable in the common areas. However, once inside the room, you see the same old issues: bathroom doors don't close, bathroom floors aren't super clean, and the beds are hard and springy. Stories I've heard since my stay from former staff didn't help my perceptions much, but I'll leave them out of this review, as it wasn't personal experience.Overall, we did enjoy our stay. The bed, while not great, is passable. The breakfast isn't bad. This isn't as nice as other La Quinta locations, but it's still the best choice in Mathis proper if you need a hotel. The others range from sketchy to terrifying.

If I could leave 0 stars, I would. My room had bed bugs. They credited 1 night of a 3 night stay. The guy in the room next to me had his tv on blast 24/7. Overall, a horrible stay & I cannot recommend anyone get eaten up like I did!

I was expecting more for the prices. This place is basically a dumpy hotel with a fresh coat of paint. They are keeping it clean-the place reeked of Lysol. Kids were running the halls until late at night keeping us awake and no one stopped them. The a/c ran all night long but yet I still felt hot and sweaty. The breakfast was a skimpy applesauce and granola bar-I guess the more generous breakfasts are a thing of the past for sure.We stayed here on our way to South Padre and will certainly not be back. Meal choices in the area are so limited that we ate Subway at the gas station next to the place.
