La Jaiba Mexican Seafood was a great choice for a first time visit to McAllen, TX. I have never been here before but relied on YELP for a good place to eat. This place was definitely worth the trip. My wife and I shared a meal and the wait staff was awesome. Got the 5X5 beer, and a family meal to share. Neither of us were disappointed in the choice. I will definitely be a repeat customer when my family and I come to town again. Thank you to the staff of La Jaiba for the hospitality and everything you offered today. Keep up the good work.

The "Cazuela de Mariscos" might be the most satisfying and delicious dish in McAllen, regardless of price.

Road trip stop! We were in the mood for some seafood and this was open and on the way to our destination. Place is located in a prime spot in the area. There is plenty of parking at this mall but there are a lot of other spots to eat as well so the night we went was busy! But luckily we were able to find a spot close by. We were seated right away and our order was taken quickly. However it took about an hour for food to actually come out. It was not too busy but it was late so not sure if they were short staffed? Food was reasonably priced and it was good.

I must say this place has been my favorite place for seafood when I visit the valley. Their complimentary seafood broth is too die for. The Tuna tostada encompasses such flavorful tastes, one is not enough. The Texas Gulf shrimp is prepared perfectly and seasoned just right. The Jaiba soup has every type of seafood blended with exceptional seasonings, enough for any seafood lovers palette.

We had a group of ten, celebrating an anniversary. They easily accommodated us. Service was adequate and reasonably timed. Those that ordered drinks enjoyed them. Particularly the Margarita Sampler. Food was a mixed bag, with some of the party raving about how wonderful it was and others saying it was just so-so. Speaking personally, I'd say my meal was just average. I had a Combo plate consisting of fried jumbo shrimp and beef fajitas. Kind of a weird pairing but since it was a seafood grill I settled on that choice. The shrimp were great. Lightly breaded, not overcooked with a very nice flavor. A winner in my book. The beef fajitas were disappointing. They were served on a sizzling platter which is a plus. The onions and peppers were nicely caramelized. Another plus. But the beef was rather tough. They used what appeared to be skirt steak, thinly sliced against the grain, which SHOULD be reasonably tender. Unfortunately this was not. So as far as fajitas go, this was a 2 star experience at most. As one other member of our party said, "It was fine, but I wouldn't drive this far again. There's too much really good food here in the Valley for that".
