Silly house rules

My friends and family recently stayed here for two nights and had an excellent stay. We booked all five suites, and the responses ranged from, "Best night's sleep I've had in a while!" to "Great bed!" The range of types of beds worked perfectly for our group. The kolaches and pigs in a blanket were very tasty. The coffee was easy and good. I really enjoyed the quiet, the ceiling fans, and the tv's.Thank you so much for a wonderful two night stay in a relaxed, antique home.

I hate to be the first negative review of this place, but we were disappointed. By all accounts, it should have been great.First, the reservations. We started by calling. When the gentleman who took the reservation found out it was for our anniversary, he suggested that we stay in one of the cottages for privacy at the same rate as the room we originally requested. We said that was great.A few weeks later, we got a call telling us that cottage was not available as it already had been booked. She would put us in the other cottage, but at the same lower rate. Okay, that's fine. When we arrived, the cottage had not been prepared yet, though we weren't early. We said that was okay. She offered a room *in the house* instead. We didn't specifically say we wanted the room in the house, but before we knew it, she was ringing us up for that room instead. We got the distinct feeling that she either didn't want to bother setting up the cottage, or she didn't want to give us the discounted rate for the cottage. Then there were the rules. See the photo I posted. While some of those might be reasonable, several were not. For one, we were cold the entire time we were in the house. It happened to be a slightly chilly weekend and we struggled to be even somewhat comfortable there. I've never had a problem with this anywhere else. Then there's the one mentioning that if you want a romantic weekend, you should seek privacy by staying in a cottage instead of the house. Really? At a B&B? Overall, the tone of that rule card is very off-putting.Talking to a local, they said the B&B wasn't the same since the woman who started it passed away. She apparently used to host big breakfasts, was very social, and supposedly it was a lot of fun and welcoming there. Now, the big dining room seems largely unused and you serve yourself a continental-style breakfast.

We stayed in the honeymoon cottage. It was really nice and cozy. Clean and comfortable. Really good breakfast. We plan on coming back.

Great B & B in the small community of Shiner. We stayed at the Derrich Domov Inn and it was perfect. Very clean and all the rooms had great linens. The kitchen was well stocked. This house was perfect for our group of 8.

This place isn't what it once was- personal touch is gone- not quite as clean and kept as it use to be.

Walking distance to the Shiner brewery, Marenka's cottage was a quiet and relaxing stopping point. Highly recommended.

Ok bed and breakfast? Prepackaged cinnamon bun and serve your self cereal is not going to cut it. The owner told us she would move us to a more expensive room for the same amount, because our room was dirty and she did not want to clean it. She charged us the higher rate, until we called her on it. If you do stay here( I will not agin) check your bill carefully, and bring your own food.

I was almost disappointed. The time I planed to take my wife on a surprise trip at the B&B and tour of Shiner brewery, was all booked up with large wedding. Cindy, the owner, sensing my disappointment suggested that if I were to move my stay up a few days, we could have the honeymoon cottage. That worked for us, since we are retired and every day is Saturday anyway. The cottage could not have been any better, cozy, private and very quiet. While they are not doing breakfast at this time, we were able to enjoy a excellent breakfast at a local Mexican Restaurant, " La Terraza De Jalisco" to fuel us up for a tour of the Shiner Brewery. And nothing is more relaxing after a hard day of site seeing than a soak in a over-sized Jacuzzi tub.The cottage was very clean and the bed was quite comfortable.Across the street, Cindy, has a nursery stocked with some interesting plants, one hanging basket made a perfect birthday gift for my wife. All in all, its a great place to stay in Shiner

We stayed in Shiner to visit the brewery, this B & B was conveniently located. The facility was nice but needed a good cleaning. Great mattresses! The breakfast part of this B & B was pretty much non existent. Serve yourself cereal and cinnamon rolls. See picture. Was quoted one rate charged a higher price which was credited back after I caught it.Hostess was not friendly and felt like we were putting her out. I hope they sell it soon to someone who will take pride in what is a diamond in the rough. Also know if staying in town you might want to bring dinner with you, for that matter breakfast too!

LOVE this place. My husband and I took an overnight trip to Shiner last weekend and stayed here one night. We were in Hank's Room at the Derrick Domov house, and it was just gorgeous. Beautiful antiques everywhere, 12 ft ceilings, clean bathroom, we couldn't have asked for more. The innkeeper was very nice, and we were delighted to see that we had the whole Derrick Domov house to ourselves. It has a great sitting area and retro kitchen. The location was perfect too, within walking distance of the main street. I would definitely stay here again, and am recommending it to anyone from Austin who wants a relaxing overnight trip.
