Yes, these are ants in tbe tamales. I bought 1-1/2 port, dozen chicken and a half dozen beef. Each bundle had ants .
These tamales have shrunk!

We've never stopped here (even though it's been around forever) -- but my wife and I were craving tamales, so we stopped, and we are glad we did!It was super clean, welcoming, and the menu had just enough to choose from. We both ordered the same thing: tacos de bistec and two pork tamales. Everything was full of flavor, fresh, and served quickly. The hot sauces were great, as were the agua frescos. We will definitely go back again and encourage other locals to, as well.

Two years ago Jovy's was recommended to me in my quest for above average Tamales. When I figured out where it was I arrived to find the place closed and it's taken me this long to pull in as I was driving by! what in the world took me this long other than stubborn stupidity I'll never know. These tamales while still small compared to what we make and get in Arizona and Nevada and California are packed with nothing but splendor! The flavor of the pork comes through and the seasonings are just what you come to expect of excellent tamales! I bought two dozen to take home. I met the owner and shared my hope that her tamales would end my search locally. The packages were warm when I got home and as is my modus operandi under such circumstances the tamales must be tasted. My daughter came into the room while I was putting groceries away and a tamale was dangling like a cigar from my mouth.I didnt look to see how much she charged me! It's a little like buying avocados. If I want it I'll pay!! Worth every cent! Now, I want to go back and have lunch. I do have a question though why our tacos here in Brazoria county not what you get in the rest of the world when you order a taco? And no I am not referring to Taco Bell. The only exception to this rule is when one orders a Sonoran taco in the tortilla is a thicker corn tortilla. Are these a Tex Mex thing?

This was not my choice but a family members who really loves this place and wants to help out small business owners. First the place is small. As soon as you walk in there is a makeshift seating area for those waiting to pick up orders. In that same small room you have the guest seating and the restroom door adjoins the eating area. It feels cramped and just having that restroom door in the same eating area grosses me out.I'll start off by saying that they were short-staffed because there was a help wanted sign. That being said the place was filthy. The tables had not been cleared after patrons left and we had to clean our own table and seat ourselves. There was food and hair all over the floor and the cleaning equipment such as brooms, mops, and mop bucket in the guest eating area which I find unsanitary and an eyesore. As far as the food, it was really nothing to brag about, not much seasoning and lacking flavor. I personally wouldn't return. I am more than sure that there are other businesses that have better food, accommodations and that are cleaner. No hate, just being honest.

Jovy's is a small colorful little joint with a few tables insid and a walk up window for to go orders. The girls behind the counter are always very nice and make sure you are served with a smile. I live in Houston and go fishing in the Freeport area a couple of times per month. I pick up a dozen spicy port tamales from Jovy's most of the Sunday mornings on my way out. The homemade tamales are always hot and MOIST. Im not sure if they were just made, but they sure seem like it. Some of the best tamales I have ever had. I would like to review more of the food, but I cant because I have to get those tamales while I am in town.Go there. Eat tamales!I thought I had updated this review...The photos are of one time I got several dozen tamales with ants in them....they refunded the price even though we had eaten a few before we noticed. However, after a while, I went back because the tamales were so good. I just check for ants now!

Ordered 2 dozen pork hot tamales, the flavor was good actually spicy this time but they were small I can't believe they would even sell these to someone. They were half of a normal size tamale! Unacceptable!

Tortas were very good though a little skimpy on the meat. They price on most menu items are very reasonable, and I highly recommend them for lunch and breakfast

So disappointed. Fajita's were DRY and no flavor. Paid $6 bucks for a jar if salsa. Menu states it is Pico de Gallo (chunkier Salsa) it was like red water in the jar. NO CHUNKS at all. Wasted $27 dollars.

I look online and it says they are open until 2pm on Sunday. I get to the door at 11:30 and there are people inside, but the doors are locked. A lady got up and opened the door and said we are closed, locked the door and sat back down at her table. The side of the building states open until 2pm. Maybe they should commit to their hours or change them. I drove a long way to eat here.
