Grandy's

When I was growing up in Dallas, we had many Grandy's locations. Even after I moved to Houston back in 1999, there were some Grandy's locations here. All of the ones in Houston have closed, and the nearest one to me is in Victoria. I had to travel to Victoria and decided to eat at Grandy's there to see if it was as good as I remembered from childhood.My favorite meal there was there Country Fried Steak, with fried okra and coleslaw, so that's what I ordered.The rolls were a tad burned and also a bit dry. (Stale?) I was sad about this, as Grandy's used to have the best rolls you could get anywhere - with the possible exception of the now-defunct Black-Eyed Pea.The Country Fried Steak was similar to what I remembered, though it tasted like it was cooked in slightly burned grease. Perhaps the deep-fryers needed to be cleaned and have the oil replaced.No complaints about the okra - it was great! The coleslaw was good.One thing that was missing from the menu was chicken livers. I used to get them regularly many years ago, but they were not on the marquis, so I guess - like many other chicken restaurants - they quit selling them.Overall, I don't think it was as good as it used to be, though it could be that I'm more discerning now. It is fast food, so that should be taken into account.

Wanted to experience Grandy's of old. Bad, sad mistake.I got there for the lunch rush at 11:30 am and it was all cold AND old! The gravy on the taters was watery and still tasted burnt. Like it was old and they kept adding water trying to stretch it out rather than make a fresh batch. The okra was even older and colder. No crunch and no flavor. The chicken itself tasted like a reheat from days ago but how can that be? Cause straight from the heat lamps it was barely room temp. Not even a little crunchy,an off flavor and and even the texture was very off putting. Couldn't even eat it all and had the feeling I made a big mistake but hoped for the best but got the worst. I went on a Tues and immediately realized I made a HUGE mistake. It's Sunday now and I'm just starting to feel normal again.Houston to Victoria for what can only be described as food poisoning and I couldn't even enjoy the taste if it. If you're thinking of driving down there for nostalgia's sake I'd advise against it. Not worth the trip, price, quality or your health.

Chicken fried chicken dinner here is absolutely delicious! Mashed taters and gravy! Cobblers are also great, always fast service with a smile!

Just didn't live up to the Grandy's of my memories.Chicken was dry, bordering on burnt, and the sides were lackluster. Not even the rolls could redeem the trip.

I wish we still had a Grandys in Corpus Christi so every time I make it to Victoria, I make sure I stop in. The rolls are the best thing, I (of course) got 2 dozen to go. I know for a fact, I'm not the only one that does this lol. It's a killer that its not open on Sundays too. Service was always very friendly and food was served with a smile. The restaurant was very clean. The staff here is so great.

Had chicken nuggets and they were hard and dry, not fresh that day!! Mash potatoes and gravy were just okay. Rolls were good but they didn't give me any butter!! The meal was over $14 and those tiny, dry nuggets were pitiful!! Good thing it's hard to mess up green beans bc that was the highlight of the meal

I don't know what to say. It's Grandy's. It's fine. The staff are always upbeat and friendly. You get vegetables as a side which is healthier than most fast food drive thru type restaurants. I like the fish they offer during lent.

Chicken and pork chop were old and dry. The cole slaw was not great, and the country fried steak tasted like old used oil. The saving grace was the mashed potatoes and gravy which were delicious but sadly not good enough to make me want to return.

Poor managementEmployees are rude for no reasonThey don't train you very wellAnd the Manager Dave is QUICK to fire people for no reasonDon't get me wrong the food is great and the restaurant is always clean But the employees and management is really rude , would not recommend working here much less eating here if u want good food go to Denny's!!! at least at Denny the employees are nice the managers are quick and nice enough to fix mistakes made by employees and the food is always great! I personally don't like Grandy's and wouldn't go back to work or eat there not even if it was the last place left to thrive in the whole Universe

Just as I remembered it 15 years ago. The country steak dinner is the exact same and hits the spot for a good price. can't wait to go back for breakfast!!!
