This is by far the most underrated state park and least visited. I spoke with one of the park rangers who mentioned that they didn't receive any visitors in the summer. I came here for a day hike and drove from Houston. When I arrived, I only saw two people exploring the park. The park is so beautiful with the churches that you can access to view its history, architecture, art, and beauty. If you love history, you should come to check out Goliad. It isn't talked about as much as what happened at the Alamo, but the soldiers were fighting for a good cause. There weren't many trails, but one led me to the Presidio la Bahia battleground site where I learned more about both areas. In the La Bahia area, you have to pay a small fee which is discounted with the receipt from Goliad. While I was viewing there, I observed several gravesites of the individuals who fought through the massacre. It was really cool to see that, but also spooky to know that their spirits are probably haunting the place. The two ladies that worked at Presidio la Bahia weren't very nice but had more of a sarcastic humor. However, the staff at the Goliad State Park were very nice, helpful, and genuinely happy to have visitors. The park is well-maintained and clean. Even driving less than 2 minutes into town to see the CCC building, the restoration is exactly how it was years ago. It felt like nothing had changed. The butterfly garden was booming with hummingbirds, butterflies, and birds. I did a quick drive-through to check out the campsites, they were plenty and empty. I only saw one person camping. The ladies' restroom was very clean with a lot of toilet paper, but it had only one shower. I loved this place and can't wait to come back for camping.

Nice quiet park mire suited for a mature clientele. No amenities for children which was fine for us. Many historical sites to be seen and appreciated

Great inexpensive trip. Started hunting around for some things to see with my friend from the UK. I came across this park. It was an easy day trip from San Antonio. Admission is 4 dollars per person. They had a small shop and I was able to get my passport state park stamped here. The ranger on site answered a bunch of questions and gave us some interesting facts about the site. There is even a chance to wear a chain headpiece and metal hat. We did the small trail in the back that was nice. The weather was nice but extremely windy. Overall a good visit.

Mom and I spent part of the day here looking at the restored grounds of the chapel. We didn't make it very deep into the state park; however, we were enraptured by the sacredness and history of the church. If you're in the area, don't miss out on the local and state history.

This was a great "off the main road" find that we stopped at en route to the Spoetzl Brewery. The site was extremely clean and well maintained. The grounds were more expansive than I expected. I got a lot of great pictures of Pollo the caique and enjoyed the staff at the gift shop and entry point. The mission had great rooms that display the history of the mission as well as a picturesque chapel. I plan on going again sometime to camp and kayak the river, since they apparently have a lot of camp grounds as well. The hike/bike trails are also something I want to visit for a fun morning run. I wish this place was closer to my house.

Going into this review - you should know: I really think Goliad State Park and Historic Site and the Mission (Espiritu Santo) should have two different review pages - because I only went to the mission - didn't spend one second in the state park (which I'm sure is beautiful).Having said that, I loved visiting this mission (center of a report I did way back in my 7th Grade Texas History class). The grounds were very well maintained, and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the small museum. I've been to many of the missions in San Antonio, and informational boards and displays were very well done. A couple of the smaller displays had lights burned out, but overall - very nicely maintained.I will say this, they might need a docent on site. Yes, they have Park Rangers on site wandering the grounds, but I had some questions a docent would probably been able to answer. A history buff like me, I've got questions, and would have liked to someone to address them. The Park Ranger was able to answer a couple...Bottom line: I'm sure there is so much more information/history in that mission we miss out on because it isn't offered. Also, I was disappointed there was no real seating in the chapel. I would have liked a pew where I could have prayed for a while. The main Park Rangers (where I paid the entrance fee) were very nice and helpful.I'd definitely recommend seeing this mission if you're in Goliad. It's gorgeous!

Goliad State Park and Historic Site is an important piece of Texas history. I thought this was the "Come and Take It" site but that's actually in the city of Gonzales. Goliad was a mission with a school and living quarters. You can walk around the mission and go into 2 buildings. If Texas history interests you, go check it out.
