If you have taken 183S to the coast you have probably drove through Goliad. You probably also stopped at the What a Burger to fuel up. Well, next time plan your trip when Market Days are being held and you have some time to check out downtown and the historic sites. You should definitely check out the square, the courthouse, and the hanging tree. There are a number of small shops, a cool deli, and a few places to wet your whistle. During market days there are plenty of vendors in attendance. The Agave Jalisco Mexican restaurant it's local and probably the best in town.History buffs check out Presidio La Bahia, Goliad State Park & Mission Espiritu Santo State Historic Site, Fannin Memorial Monument, and Our Lady of Loreto Chapel. Google em for more more Info.

Someone recommended visiting the downtown and the courthouse,I was there. I parked at a spot around the courthouse, it looked free. I walked around, I was so hot that the hanging tree gave me some shade. Thanks.I really enjoyed the downtown. I was thinking about buying ice cream, It was too expensive. People were so nice that they said" Hello' to an Asian man. Arigato.Hope to visit with a lot of money and buy ice cream!

Several years ago, my mother and I decided to spend the day in Goliad. To my delight, the city was a treasure trove of wonderful experiences. Our trip just so happened to coincide with a farmer's market of sorts on the county courthouse lawn. I even got to see the "Hanging Tree" where justice was brought immediately to those found guilty and worthy of such a punishment. The surrounding stores on the square only added to the day's adventure. Please check out all Goliad has to offer.

What a beautiful courthouse square! The main square is sorta the crown jewel in Goliad County. It's a bit intimidating that the courthouse square has a "hangin' tree" out in front, with an official looking placard and sign to let you know not to act up. It's a beautiful courthouse with lots of little kitchy shops, restaurants, and gun shops. When I came to Goliad County recently, they were having a celebration out on the courthouse square, with vendors set up selling jams, cutting boards, knives, and t-shirts, with food trucks and live music! Fun! Goliad County offers lots of stuff to do. It's right on the Texas Independence Trail, so there's lots of sight seeing and historical stuff to take in. It's also a great place to get back to the Great Outdoors, with a fantastic state park, several historic churches, a mission, and the San Antonio River! Did you know that Goliad was named after the Spanish word, "Hidalgo?" The letters were rearranged, and they left out the "H" apparently, because it's a silent letter.
