I'm not typically a fan of cinnamon rolls, but my friends are, so I tagged along to Gil's--and I'm so glad I did! We ordered one regular Manske Roll and one with chocolate, and both were absolutely delicious. While we all agreed the original Manske Roll is our favorite, we're already planning to come back and try it with ice cream next time.The service was friendly and welcoming, and the ambiance felt so homey. Knowing this is San Marcos' oldest restaurant made the experience even better. The historic vibe is definitely present, and it's such a cool way to enjoy a piece of local history.Highly recommend checking out Gil's if you're in San Marcos--it's a true classic!

We really enjoyed the burgers. They were delicious and an excellent value! On I highly recommend trying their famous Manske cinnamon roll. It's a must try treat!

Love Gil's! They serve a 1/4 lb with one meat patty, a 1/2 with two Pattie's, and then the three patty. There are a variety of toppings.The side orders are very reasonably priced. I have had their sweet potato fries and their rings. Both are exceptional.DONT forget the Manske Rolls. They also have various toppings and are delicious. They must be served warm as per instructions from Gil's.

Well seasoned burgers. I have been coming here since I was a kid. Interior has changed completely. Manske rolls are to die for.

i believe this is a nostalgic burger joint. Check out the daily specials, good after 5pm, except Friday, good all day.Try the Manske roll, but if you do, get ice cream on it! Reasonable combo special too. Great sweet potato fried, always hot & fresh. Also great onion rings. Finally, fries that are shoe-string, yummy

Gil's Broiler you did not disappoint!! I attended SWT from 83-85' and Gil's was one of my fave places. Almost 40 years later, they are still the bomb! I had a 1/2 LB burger hicory style, an order of Frots (fries & tots), and a Manske roll with bacon! The burger was cooked to perfection, as were the Frots. I savored every bite! I brought the Manske roll home for later. 30 secs in the microwave & heaven awaits! ***Big bonus points to the considerate server that brought my order out to me so I didn't have to leave my pup in the car!

Austin Fun For Kids did a blog post on a San Marcos day trip. As soon as I read about the cinnamon rolls, I was convinced to bring the fam out. Came right after they opened. There was one guy working the whole thing and he remained friendly while prompt with orders/preparing.Got the warmed roll (check in for 50% off -- I definitely did not see that before I placed the order) with a side of Amy's ice cream. It's so buttery and it's cooked perfectly. My husband got a cheeseburger just because. It was so good -- the burgers are worth the hype just as much as the rolls.Plenty of seating indoors and street parking.

Small spot but super good. Burgers were an amazing price. They have deals weekly so you're saving and it's the perfect size burger. Super filling. Fries are thin and great and the manske rolls here are great. Solid spot. The service was also great. Super friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend.

Burger was good ! Good buns. Employees were nice. Cool old time vibe inside. Came outside to my car GONE!!! When visiting this place or ANYWHERE around there USE EXTREME CAUTION and DO NOT PARK AROUND THE CORNER AT NELSON SHOPPING CENTER. they are in kahootz with a criminal organization known as Saucedo's wrecking service. They literally watch you walk away from your car then take it from you!!! They do have signage posted but the rules are very vague on purpose. They have nothing to do with Gil's (hopefully) other that it's extremely close. Won't be ever be returning to San Marcos EVER.

We were just visiting the city for day and looking for a place to get breakfast. My husband happen to notice this place and walked in to check out what they had in the menu. He came out with a Manske roll in his hand. I believe the owner gave it to him for free just to try it. He let me try it too and my god it was the most delicious pastry I ever tasted!! So buttery, soft and warm and melts in your mouth. I immediately went back to buy more. Just for the record, I am a picky eater and quality is utmost to me . I also have traveled 23 countries and have been to thousands of pastry shops in the world. This one by far was my favorite desert I ever tasted. It may be because they used real butter instead of synthetic disgusting palm oils. I will definitely be going back to this place every time we are nearby. I wish they had a branch in Oregon.
