We love hole in the wall local places. It was quaint. Service was very good but the food was not great. Chicken enchiladas were a piece of chicken in a tortilla. No sauce. No cheese. Very dry. Not tasty at all. We also had fajitas. The meat was gristly and fatty. Good flavor but not some we'd want again.

We had a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The menu was in Spanish, but wasn't too hard to figure out what to order. We ordered one of the house specialties to split between the two of us. After the chips and salsa, first came the Vermicelli soup - it was delicious! It was served promptly, was hot and had a great flavor. The chips and salsa were also very good - chips were salty and done perfectly, salsa had a good kick. Our platter was served after we finished our soup;Beef and chicken fajitas, beef flautas, a large white cheese quesadilla, some nachos, rice, beans, guacamole, lettuce and tomatoes. This was the best Mexican food I've had in a long time. We thought we were pretty hungry but could not even eat 1/2 of what we were served. Our leftovers will be enough for a least another dinner and then some. Then we were served dessert, tres leches - it too was the bomb! A great experience - service was good, food was excellent, we had a great time. Definitely will be back again when we are in the RGV.

Sooo good! But you need to come with friends. The Chorizo in the queso fundido is tasty! And it's a lot of food with the tortillas. I ordered the Gordita with carne asada. It was more like a sandwich with crispy edges. But so good! I ordered a side of avocado and I swear they gave me a whole avocado. The menudo doesn't have any hominy but once you add the lime, onion, cilantro, oregano and jalapeños it was so good!!Until next time!

Never judge a book by its cover. This applies to Emilia's Old House Mexican Restaurant. This converted single family home is extremely deceiving from the outside. On the inside is perhaps the finest Mexican food I have ever had, and I'm from Chicago. My wife ordered the Lengua en Salsa and at the recommendation of a regular sitting a table over said for me to try the " Fajitas Guadalajara". I e never heard of such a thing in Chicago. I'm very glad I ordered it. This was fajita beef in a guiso (stew) style sauce with nopal, onions, avacado and I think cotija cheese. The explosion of flavors was incredible, and it wasn't spicy either. We also tried their menudo. My wife being Colombian, they have a similar soup called mondongo. This is a beef tripe soup. This was very very good as well . I washed it down with a Mexican Coca Cola , and my wife a Agua de Jamaica. The icing on the cake. It was literally Tres Leches cake and flan. This was included in the price of our meal. All told, before tip, we ate like royalty for $26 for a soup, entree, desert and drinks. So if you live in Brownsville, or you are visiting South Padre like we were and want some truly authentic home cooked Mexican meal, do yourself a favor and stop here

Wish I could say how good the food was! It is posted that the restaurant closes 8 but when we get there at 7:15 they proceed to tell us that the kitchen closes at 7:30! But yet the places says it closes at 8 I'm confused. So we had to leave since we had a party bigger than 2. I just don't get why they don't say they close at 7:30!!!

Service is excellent, Hector is our server and dayum he is on point, he is fast and on it. I love how they start you out with some Mexican soup. The food is great! We got specials 7.99 you can't beat that! Whole entree! Atmosphere is great. Service is superb. But the food honestly it's mediocre when comparing towards other Mexican places in the area. Give it a try and let me know.

The service was excellent with my waitress )( Rosita ) taking time to patiently explain all of the authentic Mexican dishes listed on the menu I choose the Recomendacion de la casa , it came with rice and refried beans and a small cup of Fideo . Delicious. When I first arrived the building looked very worn down but once inside I found myself in a well lite and spotless dining room with an array of tables ready to accommodate any size parties. I will be returning.

Well I am here waiting to get served, which I was served by a cordial, respectful waitress.. She places my order, takes it & inform her that I will be expecting company... Minutes laters she comes back informs me that they cannot prepare my meal, nor serve, when or until my other party would arrive...This has to be one of the very, very few occasions that I have heard of this ignorance on behalf of a restaurant... I came for the food which is good, but when you have service like this.. I would rather not come back, it is not like they are giving me a free meal, much-less begging for food..
