A regular told me the burgers were supposed to be very good here, so that was my plan. On previous occasions I have had the tacos and enchiladas, and both were very good. Good queso and tasty hot sauce, also.This trip I ordered the cheeseburger(add jalapeños) and fries. I was not disappointed! Meat was hot, cheese melted, and the fries were crispy and fresh from the fryer. Jalapeños added just the right zip to the burger. I'd definitely go back for any of the menu items, but the burger will be at the top of my list.Sweet tea was spot on, too!Give it a try!

Perfectly acceptable small town Tex-Mex. For pros, the service is friendly, pretty speedy, and the menu has a huge selection.I went to lunch here on Saturday with an old friend who lives in Hallettsville. I had one of their combination plates. (By the way, I appreciate that the combination plates come without rice and beans unless requested.) My combination plate consisted of two crispy tacos and a small cup of queso. The tacos had a good flavor but the meat needed draining. In fact, the meat made the shells so soggy that both my friend and I ended up needing a fork to cut up and eat the tacos. The queso had a good flavor but the tostado shell was so small as to prevent you from dipping chips to get the queso, meaning I ended up trying to just eat the shell with the queso in it. The chips and salsa were spot on.In other words, it's a safe, but not perfect, option for Tex-Mex in Hallettsville.

Great food right on the square in downtown Hallettsville. Friendly service. I had the avocado salad this visit and loved it! I've also had the fajitas and they were delicious!!

El Vaquero served us good solid dinner today (number 8 with queso , cheese enchilada + guacamole and I had poblano shrimp and charro beans) Excellent sauces!!!

Not at all very good. Cheese puff shell was stale, chips were stale and tacos soggy. Find another Mexican restaurant.

A very nice restraunt. Great atmospere. Great service. Friendly people. Awsome food. Bought a hamburger their the meat was bigger then the bun. It was awesome. You go eat at other places in Hallettsville and the meat is much smaller then the bun. Too bad they are not open on Sunday's. They are always busy on Friday and Saturday nights. Keep that awesome food coming. I rate them as a 10.

We stopped in on a Friday night around 8pm after checking into our Air BNB. There aren't a lot of dining options in the area. It's pretty divey, but the service was the best we've had in a long time anywhere! We're from the Houston area. They were cleaning the tables very well after customers left so I felt good about the cleanliness of the place from what I saw. The food was surprisingly good and they accommodated a couple of substitutions. Tasty and strong frozen margs, too! We'll be back next time we're in Hallettsville.

Went to this restaurant a few days ago and was really expecting good Mexican food because a person who lives in this town recommended it,sadly I was disappointed by the food and the waiter. I had the sizzling combo platter with the tiny amount of dry chicken and tasteless beef and 3 shrimp ,Do Not Order This!!!! Wife had soup, she said lacked any flavor at all!!.. Rest of party had flauta and tacos that were not flavorful or tasty like real Mexican food. We all agreed the waiter was also nonchalant and never smiled or made any small talk and you can't say he was busy because there were only 3 tables occupied when we arrived. Maybe it was an off day for them or a new cook in the back or whatever but hopefully they can get that food act together and I'm sure THEN they can actually call this a Real Mexican restaurant , but for now we will have to pass on this place......
