El Potro Restaurant

Grabbed a late lunch after checking out Padre Island National Park. We were the only ones at the restaurant for the first bit but it was 3:00...Started off with margaritas...guessing they were not tequila but still quenched the thirst. Hubby had chicken and beef enchiladas and I had the chicken verde enchiladas and they were both good. Also shared a crispy beef taco and loved the seasoning on the beef. Chips and salsa were good as well. Restaurant and BRs were clean and staff was friendly.

We ordered a variety of dishes for take out! Place was packed! The menu prices on line were not updated but that is happening everywhere these days. 5 stars because all the food was delicious! Generous portions too!Order came out quickly!

So check it I've been on a hunt for Birria tacos since being in Corpus Christi and had been coming up empty. I spent this particular day calling up restaurant to see if any served Birria tacos and everyone said no except for this particular restaurant. I pulled up and went inside and it kind of gave cafeteria vibes. I was seated immediately and brought chips & salsa. The chips were very fresh and the salsa was good. A little on the spicy side. Finally the star or the show. I ordered the Birria tacos and a side of rice. It came with three tacos and it looked amazing. However when I took my first bite something was lacking. The shells weren't salted and not enough cheese or seasoning on the meat. The meat also wasn't as tender as I liked. The consommé was good though and I used it to spread over the rice which helped because it was bland. The employees were very nice and helpful. The search of Birria tacos in Corpus Christi continues.

Haven't been here in a while. Cold weather and caldo go great too. Large bowl of caldo was not up to par. One piece of carrot, one piece of potato, one piece of cabbage and I mean piece. Plenty of meat , soup was not as hot as it should be for 11:00 am. Even had a cold piece of cabbage. No chips and salsa was served to me. Can't believe this passes for a nearly &12.00 bowl of caldo.

This is some of the best Mexican food that we have had in a very long time. I got the shrimp quesadilla, which was great. The shrimp weren't over cooked at all. Myhusband had the mini tacos w/ al pastor - delicious.y daughter has the quesaburrias - love them. Youngest daughter has the soup and she didn't really enjoy it bc there wasn't much flavor at all. Everything else was absolutely wonderful. I wish it wasn't 4 hours away.

Visited here while in the area. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Menu is priced accordingly with the amount of food you receive. Chips were crisp and salsa was different, almost that of tomato paste blended with garlic, pepper and spices, not bad though. Wife had the Plato Jaliscience which she enjoyed. The meat was tender and flavored well, charro beans are excellent, rice moist and good. She said that's some of the best guacamole she's had. I enjoyed the Plato Mexicano dinner; 2 cheese enchiladas with good red sauce, had crispy taco full of ground beef and nice crispy shell. Again charro beans are excellent and broth is very flavorful. Overall a good dinner.

If there were 10 stars I would have hit that mark. The food is incredible and truly authentic. The enchiladas are out of this world as are the quesadillas. The biera (sp?) tacos on weekends are a must-have. I loved their Menudo soup, a/k/a mondongo or tripe, was truly flavorful and near perfect. Friendly and attentive staff. My only regret is that I was only visiting Corpus and don't live there to eat at Potro more often. I did, however, eat there 3 times during my one week stay.

We tried the ceviche tostada, and it was delicious. I enjoyed that spicy hot sauce. This place was recommended by the hotel staff and we will definitely stop here again - five stars all the way across. Thank you.

First time eating here but food was very good. They make their own chips and tortillas which are amazing. Very loud inside. That is the only con to this place. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
