EMDSB is about as good as it gets in the hierarchy of Corpus taqueriadom. It is located in a peculiar place considering it's quality. Most other surrounding taquerias are subpar at best. Their menu is actually quite extensive, including an impressive amount of seafood options. The food is top-notch taqueria fare. The interior and atmosphere are also really nice; probably one of the best while maintaining authenticity. Service has always been really good here as well. Big bonus: their house red and green salsas are amazing, but they also have many awesome bottled ones including El Yucateco, Cholula, and Valentina.

Our dinner party of four adults met at this restaurant on a weeknight to try the new cuisine. For many years it had been a staple Mexican place near Del Mar College, but had recently changed hands so we were curious to try the new menu. The restaurant is laid out in several dining rooms with a small bar and cashier/hostess stand in the front. We walked in and saw no hostess or waitperson so we seated ourselves in the almost empty left dining room. The menu is extensive with many breakfast and seafood items - ceviche, shrimp and fish tacos, caldos (soups), salads, seafood cocktails - as well as a few traditional Mexican plates like enchiladas, carne guisada and chalupas. Our waiter seemed very unsure and shy, and did not speak much English but we communicated as best we could with our limited Spanish. He brought hot sauce and chips, but the hot sauce had a strange aftertaste and the chips were very stale. We ordered cheese enchilada plate, Tejas enchilada plate, caldo de camarones (shrimp soup) and a huge fajita plate containing beef, sausage and shrimp. We waited about 15-20 minutes for our food, and one in our party had to wait another 15 minutes for his caldo, the waiter acted like he forgot to tell the kitchen about the caldo order. The food is pretty mediocre. The caldo with shrimp and calamari was very strange, like a canned soup that someone had added shrimp and squid to - - and it had chunks of very hot peppers in it. The enchiladas were also very odd, made with flour tortillas and very little cheese filling, topped with carne guisada and not the cheese sauce as pictured on the menu. The fajita plate was good, but huge and the sides were mediocre as well. Our refried beans were okay, but the Mexican rice was full of mixed vegetables and had a perfumed flavor like someone had sprayed it with cologne.Another problem was the service. Our waiter appeared infrequently and started mopping the women's restroom (located right by our table) and carrying out trash long before closing time and long before we were finished eating. The smell of cleaning fluids and ammonia were NOT appetizing at all. We were sitting and talking after eating and were shocked to have him take all our dirty dishes and clean them in a huge bucket right at our table. When we got up to pay our check at the cashier's stand, he was mopping all the floors and putting chairs up although it was way before closing time. Note to manager: please tell your staff not to clean with strong-smelling cleaning products before all the customers are out of the restaurant. It's very off-putting and if someone were allergic to ammonia it would've been dangerous to boot. Just bad manners!Total for three beers, one soda, four entrees was $ 62.51 without tip. If we go back it will be to try their breakfast.

The food here is really good. They have $1.99 frozen margaritas. The wait staff are very attentive and pleasant. The reason I am giving it only 3 stars is because of the manager. I go there pretty often and there has never been one time where she was pleasant to us. She always has a frown and a dismissive attitude. The ambiance could be better because they have two music sources going at the same time. Sometimes you can get them to turn one of them off. Annoying.

I read the reviews and didn't have issues some people did. However, their shrimp ceviche was SOOOOO DELICIOUS!!!! It was so much that I could use my salsa chips to eat another tostada. You won't be disappointed with the portion and prices are very reasonable. Their margaritas are 1.99, another plus if you wanna sip. The shrimp ceviche was fresh and didn't taste old/fishy. I want to go back today!!!
