El Itacate... great Salvadoran and Mexican food in a nice atmosphere. Here in the RGV, we have taco restaurants all over, and most offer the same things. This place adds a special touch, not only with Salvadoran pupusas, but some tacos that are still authentic but unique. I'd been to the Pharr El Itacate before and had their pupusas. I really enjoyed them. When I saw this location near the 19th and Trenton Sam's Club, I decided to try something else on their menu and got the Tacos Llorarás. These have fresh hand-made corn tortillas filled with beef birria and a whole jalapeño stuffed with cheese chicken relleno style. I added some of the pickled onions with habanero and one of their complimentary salsas... oh man! They were awesome! El Itacate offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, some great looking chilaquiles I intend to try out soon, and a lot more. They have a garnish bar to add to your pupusas or tacos. They offer bottled Mexican soft drinks, a few American bottled drinks like tea, and also the more common soda fountain drinks. The facilities are clean, classy, nicely decorated, no TV's blaring, just a wonderful atmosphere for friends or family to meet, enjoy a delicious meal and good conversation. The parking is plentiful. They are handicapped accessible. The prices are a bit high, but this is not a typical taco stand. I enjoyed it, and think you will too.

Came in here one morning with family while visiting my parents and was pleasantly surprised. The place was well lit, inviting, simple ordering line, clean, and the staff were friendly and ready to help with recommendations! I personally ordered the Chilaquiles Reketes and they were awesome! It was a large portion stacked with food! The chips turned into a mixture of some soft and some crunch since there is salsa and food on top of them but it was very good! Eggs were cooked perfectly and the chicharrones were soooo good! Great texture, great flavor and very comforting dish!Definitely would recommend. It's a small place in the plaza and easily missed/overlooked on the way to Sam's but it's definitely worth the trip!

This place was recommended by a friend when I asked to meet up for brunch. She said she liked exploring new places and we decided to give it a try. The place has a great ambiance and the food was amazing! The service was fast and the food was exactly as I ordered it. I'm pretty picky with what I eat and everything tasted way better than expected. The portion was also very large for the small portion I ordered. I will definitely be add them to my place to frequent for breakfast/brunch when I travel to the valley.

The food is okay not great had better else where or made my self. The chilaquiles were DRENCHED in their green salsa was completely over powering. The coffee is burnt. The tacos planchas the meat and beans looked like it was sitting there burnt and dried up. Service was good greeting immediately and helped ordering for the first time was provided options. Good service. Ambiance is relaxing good music. Over all okay place but just my issues with the place.

Chilaquiles están con madre like wow . Pero si está bien caro. Very very pricy but food is solid. They have one in Pharr I believe and it's a little more homey

Went here yesterday for lunch. We had La Tabla entree which consisted of a variety of tacos with flautas and a chicharron salsa. The entree cost around $45 but will definitely feed a family of four with possible leftovers. You do have to purchase side items separately such as rice/beans. Overall we found the food had a great taste and very fulfilling. They have as self serve add on bar that consist of pickled onions, cabbage and carrots. They do serve breakfast as well. I would recommend stopping by if you want to try something from the normal taco restaurants we have down here. My only drawback is that they don't make fresh ice tea, everything is either in a plastic bottle or through pour out machines.

Was not worth the hype. My pupusas were cooked on high heat so the surface was cooked but the inside masa was still very raw. The disappointment.

Had never been here before they have a small menu to pick from I ordered the tacos plancha. The tacos are small, the meat (whatever kind of meat that was, was bland). I asked the girl what kind of meat it was and she said "red" okaaay? I got my tacos they were cold. I hate cold food. I was with 2 other people and they didn't get served after maybe 10 minutes later so they were watching me eat. I only ate half and my friends were shocked bc I love to eat and I finish ALL my food. Not going back.
