Downtown Grill

So here is this space, in the historic area of Victoria, open late and serves booze and has a big kitchen. It was Saturday night and it was not packed. So what was the problem? The good side, the beer is wet, the wait staff is nice, the layout is funky. Bad side, it is a gem in the ruff. It has so much potential. I think as soon as you walk in the door you are hit by the true potential it does. So there is the problem. How does everyone else see it and the owner ignores it. This could be a great cornerstone place for rebuilding the down town area. Not that there is much to down town Victoria, but it does have potential.

Place was almost empty around 10pm, didn't phase us, got some drinks and shots, got a seat outside to smoke. While outside, some random drunk guy, just sat there listening to our conversation and laughing at the wrong times, a little sketchy. Then about an hour later, the placed exploded with about 20-30 youngsters showing up at the same time. That was our cue to leave, all in all, place was ok, needs some atomsphere changes/repairs and maybe some variety to the music, but drinks were good and service was about the same.

While this place's heyday may have long passed, I have a weak spot for nostalgia. While the atmosphere may be lacking, there is no denying that the head bartender, Jacob Bowman, is THE BEST bartender in town. If you go, ask for him, and ask for his famous Long Island Iced Tea. It is amazingly smooth! But I will warn you, it is potent so sip it. A Big Red and Flaming Dr. Pepper are also good to order. If you like rock music rather than the typical country you hear playing in most Texas bars, this is your place. Lots of rockers and occasional brawls. It may look shabby, but it's definitely worth a visit. The pool table upstairs is my stomping ground and there is a hidden patio past the bathroom with often overlooked charm. Again, shout out to Jacob! He's great.

usually the only bar i come to when ever i do go out. Love the service and the people and the live bands. The mixed drinks are always on point.

Not much room to dance. Drinks are reasonable. M4M & F4F are 70% of the crowd there. Bartender needed help. Upstairs place to sit. Not much for parking. I wouldnt recommend as a place to 'live up the night'.

Great Place, always have a good time. Yes it needs to be updated but it the old antique "dive" that draws me to it. Free shots for all my friends!
