Don Pepes Mexican Restaurant and Cantina

Super great food and location. First off the place is really beautiful, I was taken about with the space and the Christmas tree. Place is warm and inviting and decorated so beautifully. Our meals started out with chips and salsa and a vegetable soup. The soup was really great. Our favorites at the table were the enchiladas de Costa's (think shrimp and cheese), and the mixed fajitas. Less favorite was the chicken moles. The chicken was fall off the bone delicious but the mole sauce left a lot to be desired. I would recommend that they take the mole off the menu. I've had way better mole and this was a little off. The wait staff was amazing and they have ducks our side that you can feed. Thumbs up! Great for groups.

A few tips for y'all that we wish we'd known: ~Our table was 4 adults & a 2 year old. They charged us a 20% gratuity for a table of "5 or more". ~Food was OK, but not as special as their prices.~As others have said, Menu says there's a Happy Hour special for specific hours. Our Waiter said they don't always do that...?Really felt taken advantage of and misled. We will not be back.

We landed at Don Pepe's for lunch because I'm a gringa in search of good chips and queso down in the valley. While the queso wasn't to my liking (no flavor, just melted cheese) the ponchos were delicious. We got the fajita chicken and steak combo and my goodness, I don't know if I've ever had better meat in my life. The marinade and the cook on it was just perfect, I actually preferred the chicken which never happens! The restaurant itself was immaculate and looked much more expensive than the menu price would suggest. Our waiter was very friendly and quick to help us with whatever was needed. They also have apple juice for the kids. We will definitely be back, but still on the hunt for the best chile con queso out here ;-)

The botanas were amazing and a lot of food. They forgot my guacamole but I will let them slide this time! I ordered a chicken and beef botana; one of each and my family devoured it like piranhas!!! I will definitely be visiting this establishment again when I go down to visit family!

I will start with the service. Six in our party. Would not go back to the back cooler to get our beer. Tried to order margaritas and mix was bad. Ordered food, had to wait on tortillas to come out so we could eat. Gave us six total for six people. Tried to order more, brought us four more. What the heck? Ready to pay and added a gratuity that was so undeserving! Why did we pay it!?!? Food was subpar. So disappointed! Better off eating at a food truck.

I truly recommend this place if you're looking for something delicious and traditional! The employees are very attentive and the atmosphere fits a fine evening to have a nice dinner.

Don Pepe's is a nice Mexican themed restaurant. A step above most here in the Valley. They have a varied menu with the usual appetizers, combinations and specials, but also some rather unique items. I saw some items including quail which is something I've never seen in a Mexican restaurant. I chose Camarones Santa Chelo. This dish came with six nice sized fresh gulf shrimp, simmered in a tomato/garlic sauce with a chunk of Panela cheese, served in a blistering hot molcajete. Because the cooking vessel is so hot, the sauce is literally boiling along the edges when served. It came with rice and beans, freshly made tortillas and strangely enough, a piece of garlic bread (which was GREAT for sopping up the extra sauce). I enjoyed my meal. Other folks in our group of ten had a variety of meals - two had botanas, one beef, one chicken, several had enchilada plates or other combination plates. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. The prices seemed reasonable enough for most items. My Camarones meal was $24.99 which is a little high for six shrimp, rice and beans. But, the presentation with the authentic volcanic rock molcajete, accounts for some of that cost I'm sure. Service was very good for a party of ten. We'd definitely return with friends.

Don't request delivery from this place. You run the risk of paying for food that will not delivered. I was not called to let me know that part of my order was not available. When I called I was told that they tried calling (no missed calls on my call log). I asked if they could exchange for a lesser item they said yes, but didn't have anyone to deliver. There young lady I spoke to was very nice and professional. Guess I won't be ordering from them any more.

My wife and I went for lunch today 8/14/24. She ordered the fajita plate and I ordered the bistak ranchero. We both were extremely disappointed, the meat on both plates felt like we were chewing on rubber bands. The only one thing good about the meal,was the tea. Never,never,never again. I would not even give it one star rating.

Could be way better, i have been there twice. First time, they could not find our order, waited (with a 4mo) and waited until they decided not to charge (imagine how long we waited). Today I went for the second time, waiter did not even say good afternoon, or anything, just stopped and ask -what do you want to drink? and then -what are you going to order. I could hear other waiters talking to their customers... Food took way too long we ended up ordering to go, checken at home and did not include the avocado, which was supposed to be in my order. The food is ok, but not better than any other mexican place. Maybe you'll get a good waiter, maybe you'll get the one I did. I am definitely not coming back.
