Great service and menu. The food is delicious. There is plenty of sitting. My only complaint is: the men's room is atrociously unclean and a little smelly. It is the same every time I visit...It is a favorite of my wife and I. Hoping we don't have to change our favorite Mexican restaurant for another nearby place..

The one star for this place is reserved for the waitress who served us....make not the mistake we made, there is better food elsewhere. We stopped here on a whim...my wife and I would always pass by it do we decided to finally try to our regret.I had the enchiladas and a carne guisada taco..my wife was craving a chimichanga style burrito, covered in chili sauce. Well, my carne guisada was bland in the taco, along with the rice and beans. The enchiladas were decent. My wife literally said that their chimichanga was basically a Stripes burrito covered in sauce with cheese. Not the best recommendation...I tasted it and agreed. To top it off...I ordered a small menudo. Check the photo ..I was almost done with it when surprise! There was a small piece of paper from a Sweet N Low packet hiding out in the bottom...I understand accidents can happen but it seems like these are patterns here and not accidents. The waitress asked if I wanted another menudo... really? Will it come with another sugar packet? How about offering to take it off my tab? Nope...RIP to the original founder of the place... unfortunately this place does not do anything for his legacy.

First off, I want to say that they were absolutely swamped today as they were one of the only restaurants I found that was open after the big storms last night in the Rio Grande Valley with 80 mph winds. So, I appreciate the fact they were open at all. This is for the location on Griffin Parkway near Shary Rd. Considering they were swamped I'm not diss them on being a little slow. They were running so that was excellent as far as I'm concerned. I ordered one of their b'fast; a #10 I believe. It came with two biscuits and gravy with sausage plus two eggs and hashbrowns. My eggs were perfectly cooked over easy. The hashbrowns were the dehydrated variety, rehydrated and cooked. Those always lead to an inferior end product with crunchy, almost inedible bits because they're so over cooked and the rest are not very good either. This seems to be what they serve a lot in The Valley. Not my jam for sure. I am used to so much better in the PNW where I come from. Next up, the biscuits, which were HUGE by the way. Eac was sliced in half with a small patty of sausage on top, covered with gravy. It was like getting four biscuits really. The biscuits were tender enough, easy to cut with a fork (believe it or not I've been served some I had to use a knife!), the taste was ok. The sausage was pretty mild. Almost flavorless. The gravy was decent as to consistency. Not runny, not gloppy. But it too wasn't very flavorful. I even had to add a little salt which is unusual for sausage gravy. The coffee was decent and the poor waitress was running but she did keep my cup topped of really well. End result, the bill was nearly $15 which is a little steep for these parts but, that's ok. I have a few favorite haunts here so I'll probably continue going elsewhere. But it is a decent restaurant. So there's a chance I'll give them another try.

Wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt even if the last reviews were more than a year ago. Service could have been better. We needed to constantly be asking for things. Utensils, napkins, coffee etc. After ordering it took about 30mins to get our food. One plate was brought out then two then after a while the last two. Flavor was missing. Pancakes had no flavor just a lot of flour. To get flavor A LOT of syrup needed to be used. The chilaquiles were a bust . The salsa had whole pieces of jalapeño slices and twice I got the nerves from the chicken. Not a good feeling. Which grossed me out. According to the lady the tortillas are made in house which the corn tortillas were from a bag and the flour tortillas might have been hand made but got reheated that they got hard really quick. Overall the flavor and the service is not that good. As a party of six the average scoring ended at the 2 stars. Will not be coming back for breakfast.

We came here as a huge party for my grandmother's funeral. Even those this was planned days in advance they were not ready for us at all. No silverware, no waters, no menus. It took over 45 mins for the table I was sitting out to get to place a drink order. My husband and I ordered chz enchilada plate and asked for our tortillas. They said for parties, they charge for tortillas even with plate orders. We asked for chips for the table, again a fee. The waitresses either dont speak a tiny bit of English or at least pretend not to. My husband had asked for a refill (again, because you have to ask for everything 4 times) and a different server walks up to the table with a filled glass and says "who had a tea refill?" And my husband asked if it was sweet and she said "I dont know. Did you order a refill?" SO RUDE!!! half the table was in literal shock. Her blouse was also opened up passed the middle of her breasts (very unprofessional) and she was sweating profusely so obviously she was having a bad day but still. Sad to rate this place so low. Apparently it was one if my great grandpa's favorite spots. The food was good. Service was horrible. We wont be back.UPDATE SAME VISIT: I just saw 3 baby cockroaches crawling up the walls right by our table.

Terrible service, I had bought two of the three tacos which the menu only said, the waitress comes with the rice, beans, lettuce with avocado and the tacos had jalapeños and onions which my sister is allergic too. The waitress was careless to even ask if we wanted it all the way, we didn't know what we were expecting when they brought out our food, and she still was careless to tell us the food was extremely hot. And in the middle of all this the same waitress decided to take out her phone and call someone while being at work in front of other customers, either they get new menus explaining more, or get better staff. Could see why they only have 2 stars.

The food is delicious! Old restaurant so don't expect what a 5 star restaurant has to offer. But, the food is all homemade and so tasty. Service can be a bit lacking but a lot of the staff has been there for many many years. One waitress has been there for 30. Ask for her.

It has been written that if you want to get an idea of the condition and cleanliness of a restaurant's kitchen, then go check out the condition and cleanliness of the bathrooms. If that is the case (And I believe so) then the kitchen must be pretty scary !! The men's bathroom was dirty, unkempt and in poor repair. The food was bland...nothing that would make me want to return again to eat. It always amazes me that a restaurant owner would spend thousands of dollars to open a restaurant only to serve food that I could make MUCH better at home and allow filthy, unsanitary conditions to exist. Is this the way they keep their own homes ? I can only conclude that they don't have a clue about operating a successful restaurant or they're lazy and/or just don't care.My money is better spent elsewhere..

Very bad service got. Got here no two tables were dirty waitresses saw us standing around and just walked by. Once seated instead of asking if we needed more time kept on coming and saying "ya?" hurrying us up in ordering. Food was cold and meat undercooked. Danny's on Tom Landry is my fav restaurant, this location gives it a bad name. First and last time coming. And waitress gets no tip.

Rotten Food!!! I went in today to eat lunch and ordered the chicken fried chicken. Last time I had it, it was amazing so I thought I'd get the same thing. The chicken was ok but when I bit the mashed potatoes, something was off. It took me a couple seconds then I realized. THE MILK THEY USED WAS ROTTEN!!!I told the waitress and she appologized and asked if i wanted another plate and what side i wanted etc. She walks to the back and loudly says "HEY THERES A PROBLEM WITH THE MASHED POTATOES AGAIN" (In spanish)She brings out my new plate and ITS THE SAME PLATE!! They just scraped off the rotten mashed potatoes and replaced them with fries. I could tell since I had already cut up the chicken. To top it off I told the cashier about it and said I wasn't going to pay for rotten food and she said ok and she took care of it. ONE DOLLAR. She discounted 1 dollar. I saw and I told her "Hey my food was literally ROTTEN" and she just say's OK and charged my card. Worst experience ever and I will NEVER be returning and plan to file a complaint with the health department.
