Wonderful ladies! Hard-working and dedicated! Very relaxed birth last year! If we were still in the area, we'd always choose them!

This is humiliating and mortifying but since my review of the Corpus Christi Birth Center will not post to google, has been deleted multiple times from their Facebook page, and now they have turned off their reviews altogether, I am forced to post this publicly. All the events are accurate and I have proof of it all. I want to make it very clear this is a poor representation of the midwifery practice and should not reflect on the practice as a whole. My experience was the result of negligence and this company is an outlier to the field.I will cut to the chase. Please google TDLR license search, click license search, search by the city, and DO YOUR RESEARCH. You can request the details of the three reprimands on Beth Overton's license (mine is the third finalized & will be posted soon). You will also find that no other midwife in Corpus Christi has a reprimand on their license, let alone three, & to think she is teaching students. If this isn't a red flag then I don't know what is. I do not want my fragile emotions jumbled with facts so here is a timeline:28 weeks- signed up, Grace & Adlai unsupervised & recorded baby as head down; had anatomy scan, no one called with results30 weeks - unsupervised students record baby as head down again; I asked for the ultrasound results & was told baby was breech, missing kidneys & cerebellum & I needed to be transferred to maternal fetal medicine in S.A. (the one here will not work with her). Beth did not agree with results & sent me for another ultrasound. Ultrasound 2 was fine but baby still breech. Beth said baby had time to turn & I did not need to be transferred32-34 weeks-students recorded baby as head down35-38 weeks-I went WITHOUT care for various schedule conflicts (on their end), Beth insisted she was not worried about me38.5 weeks-unsupervised students (Grace & Adlai) recorded baby as head down, multiple signs labor was imminent but was told a few more weeks2 days later at 4pm my water broke; Beth's response, "oh I wasn't expecting this from you tonight but I guess we're having a baby" & told me to stay home & call when contractions intensified9pm first checkup-greeted with, "were all very tired, we delivered a baby last night", Adlai said my baby was head down, I was 3-4cm/+1-+2 station/60% effaced, sent home & told to call at 1am. I labored alone in my bath tub for the next few hours. Simultaneously through text message, two friends said it sounded like I was about to deliver & at 11:45pm I called but no one answered. A few minutes later Grace called & said to come for second check up. I arrived to find out I was 9cm/100% effaced & baby was "surprise" frank breech & I needed an emergency c-section. Beth stayed to call in my transport; Grace and I arrived at the hospital except they were unaware & unprepared for my arrival. I laid on the stretcher in the hallway while the nurses, Grace, the paramedics, & my boyfriend argued as other nurses scrambled to find me a room. It was chaos to say the least. They found a room & doctor said baby was +3 (+4 is crowning) & I was rushed to OR & she was born at 2:37am, June 16th, 2018.Traumatic is an understatement.Postpartum-Something was wrong with my baby. The doctors said she was breech for awhile & had taken on characterics of this positioning; she had a breech head (dolichocephaly, please google images), breech legs (her legs were at a 90 degree angle for 2 weeks). She hung her head at a bizarre angle not normal of a newborn nor typical of torticollis. [EDIT: She was diagnosed with "complex Bilateral Congenital Torticollis, Tortisoma, Spondylolysis, Left Cervical Shear, Cervical Scoliosis, Hemihypoplasia, Plagiocephaly, Scaphocephaly, and other deformities of the skull, face, jaw, and ears."]Bilateral Congenital Torticollis is extremely rare & attributed to intrauterine persistent positioning & birth trauma. Based on her issues, the physical therapist concluded she got this from growing breech. I took her to 6+ months worth of physical therapy, cranial sacral therapy, chiropractic care, & put her in a Doc Band & unfortunately they cannot do more until she grows capable of participating actively with physical therapy. I feel sorry for Grace and Adlai because their hearts are in good places but they are severely lacking in proper mentorship. The students were unattended at the majority of my appointments & recorded my baby as head down both days the ultrasounds indicated breech. Beth was not witnessing, educating, correcting, or advising them & the worst part is there are no current penalties against this & now these students are licensed. I trusted the Birth Center because they had great reviews. Please ask yourself if all the good reviews are worth my horrible experience & if this is who you want caring for you and your baby?

I am not even sure where to begin. Beth and all of the ladies at CCBC have become like family. They have been a part of each of my four home births. They make it evident how much they genuinely care for you and your baby, with each prenatal appointment, and in postpartum care. Every visit is personal and pleasant. They take the time to truly get to know you and your individual needs. They are attentive to your requests and address every question/concern you may have. Their care goes beyond routine. God is using Beth, and CCBC in wonderful ways. She has been such a blessing to our growing family.

My husband and I had a great experience with the CC Birth Center team! We wanted a different experience than what you get in a traditional hospital and we got what we paid for. We had a very personalized, positive, and faith filled experience!Although our son had other plans and we didn't quite have the birth we hoped to experience but the good news is we were blessed to have a healthy baby boy!Huge thanks and shout out to Kris and her team for all the support and encouragement along the way. They're very knowledgeable and provide the pros, cons, and alternatives to all decisions that need to be made. We highly recommend the Corpus Christi Birth Center!

We are so blessed by the Corpus Christi Birth Center, Kris and her team Mrs. Dona, Key, Manuela, Katy and Ebony have all been there for us in the ups and downs from losses and welcoming the birth of our first baby. The care we received has been phenomenal. They care about all aspects of prenatal and postpartum care. They answered our questions in depth, provided us with the current research and offered alternative options per what we desired in our birth plans. We are thankful for their support and prayers through our pregnancy, we ended up having to have an emergency C-section. Their team was available for us during our hospital stay and after. We are so thankful for their continued support and the heart behind what they do to provide the best care, in our situation they prayerfully considered all options that were best for baby and I. If we knew how this would have turned out, we wouldn't have changed anything. They have become family and we look forward to more blessings to allow us to returning to their care.

I've had three births with the Birth Center. The first, my son, was my most difficult. It was a long, difficult labor and the baby was having trouble breathing after. Beth didn't hesitate to make the call to transfer care to Driscoll children's hospital for my baby-- calling an ambulance as she'd discussed with us prior when we talked about contingencies. I found her handling of the situation to be completely professional. She and her staff did everything in their power to make sure that we were taken care of, and made the calls they needed to make to keep me and the baby safe. My second and third births, my daughters, went pretty much exactly as planned. I was able to give birth in the birthing tub in the Birth Center, and the midwives treated me and my husband wonderfully through the whole process. The pre-natal care is wonderful there as well. Beth and her current student, Katie, do a wonderful job answering questions and giving advice. And Dona, the lady in charge of finances, does a great job as well. For any new mamas, especially first time mamas, I really recommend asking Beth about the birthing classes she hosts in the office. Natural birth is a good experience if you prepare physically and mentally for it, and those classes really go a long way towards doing that.

Very disappointed in this whole experience. It turned me off of "natural childbirth" because after reading everything I could on the subject and choosing my midwife carefully, traveling hours For every appointment, I was not supported. The dealbreaker for me was that the midwife did not actually attend the birth of my child but still charged me full price. It was disheartening to be left without any support during such a vulnerable time after taking every precaution against that happening.

BEWARE...be clear on what you are getting into when you sign the financial contract. It is portrayed that getting insurance exception and applied to deductible is all but certain, but in reality there is really no guarantee. If you have to transfer to the hospital for any reason to give birth (in my wife's case it was as simple as she was going to go past 42 weeks) you could get stuck with the birth center bill (our whole deductible amount) AND the hospital bills (so having to meet the whole deductible and then pay the leftovers). Since none of the amount we paid to the birth center could actually go towards our in network deductible we basically paid double. As new parents the idea of going over our due date was something we were ignorant about but the possibility of going over 42 weeks was definitely downplayed by them. Read the contract through thoroughly to understand what you are signing up for, understand all of the risks of pregnancy/percentages that could require you to transfer to hospital, and just know that if there is any chance at all that you might have to transfer to hospital you could get stuck paying two bills. Everyone was polite and nice, but I wish the process and financials had been a little more transparent.

I don't even know where to begin my review. As soon as I found out I was pregnant I immediately went to searching up a birth center as I knew I did not want to have a traditional hospital birth. The moment I walked into the birth center and met Beth, Grace and Adlai I knew this was the place where I wanted to have my baby. The ladies including Dona were always helpful and eager to answer any questions I had about anything. During your appointments they never rushed you or anything, the wait time was never long either. I loved the hands off approach they have. Unfortunately I was unable to give birth at the birth center. Adlai was there for me during my hospital stay. She was my advocate and I honestly don't know what I would have done without her; she was my rock and made me feel so comfortable in the hospital setting. If I ever have a 2nd CCBC will absolutely be my first call.
