My parents hired this company to spray foam their home. About two weeks after spray foaming the house (after the contractor had been paid), my parents noticed the foam was starting to shrink and pull off the walls and studs. You could literally pull it off the wall in many places throughout the house. There were large gaps all over the house where the foam shrunk in size and pulled away from the wood studs. The owner came out and claimed it was my parent's fault the tar paper wasn't removed in a small area and he sprayed over it. Isn't it the contractor's job to make sure the site is prepared correctly? If it was supposed to be removed and they didn't want to remove it, why didn't they tell my parents so they could remove it prior to spraying? We contacted the manufacturer of the spray foam company and the representative came out to the house and saw the situation. The wood inside the house was too high of moisture level when they sprayed the foam and the moisture caused the reaction to occur too quickly so the foam couldn't form correctly and eventually shrunk over time. The crazy thing is the owner of Cool Spray says people call him all the time with this issue and he just uses foam in a can to fix it? Foam in a can is not a fix. It doesn't isulate and doesn't address the foam that has delaminated from the wall. This company is not spraying the foam correctly and that is why the shrinkage occurs. The foam is no longer air sealing meaning water vapor can come into your wall and has the ability to condense. You don't want water in a dark wall cavity or you could have mold issues. Most people move forward soon after the spray foam is installed and cover up the foam with drywall before they notice the foam has shrunk and detached from the wall. This whole situation has been a nightmare. We wish we would have never used spray foam insulation. In the end, Batt insulation would have been easier, less costly, and provided more insulation than what we are left with! The owner is now refusing to correct his work and is telling my parents it is their job to buy commercial dehumidifiers?! He is accusing my Mom (70 years old) of lying. Of what? Your spray foam job was defective and you are refusing to make it right! We would never use this company again.
