May not be like you California beaches, but damnit...this place is peaceful and has a vibe of its own. Just birds, sand, water and sky...as it should be. No fighting for attention, wanna be actors, bikini posers here. Just peace.Sincerely,Texas Girl

My heart is broken after Hurricane Harvey. This small Texas beach town was hit hard by the storms. I'm not sure if the town will ever be the same again. The 150+ mph winds tore through the town, tearing the roof off of almost every building in town. The downtown commercial district was especially hard hit, tearing most of the buildings apart, like a giant bomb blast. The beaches here are some of the best in the state. Wide beaches that you can drive on, in your car or in one of the many golf carts available in the city. There's still lots of places to stay, once they clear out from the storm. It seems that the high rise condos were largely untouched. I feel badly for the people of this lovely community, and hope that they can dig out from under the piles of debris in the very near future. I know that this vibrant, fun city will rebuild. The spirit of Port Aransas is strong, vibrant, and resilient, even if it is on island time. Currently, the ferries are running on limited hours, and the power is still knocked out to the island, even after nearly a month since the storm. Debris lines the streets, but I know it won't be that way forever. I hope to be able to visit Port Aransas in the near future as a tourist, when they are better able to accommodate. In the mean time, send your thoughts, prayers, and emergency supplies headed to this lovely island.

An all around fun beach experience can be had at Port A. If you haven't been, you've got to check it out. Maybe not as nice as South Padre, but it's bound to be closer, unless you live in the Rio Grande Valley or Mexico. The ferry is fun, but check the website on your phone while you're still near Sinton to see if the wait is too long. You can go to Corpus and come up the peninsula.

This is one of our fave beaches in Texas. Plenty of parking on the beach and access roads. The beaches are pretty clean. People are laid back and some are salty dogs. If you can't catch your own fish then go get some fresh crabs and fish from one of the local fisherman shops. The local blue crabs are awesome. Don't go to the restaurants cook your own meals. You can't go wrong with Port A. Go once, go twice it's always nice.

It's pretty nice but the beaches aren't the same as pacific coast beaches. When we went we did see jelly fish lying on the shore.

I absolutely love Port Aransas. I've lived in Texas for 8 years and we always find time to make a few trips down there a year. We live in San Antonio - so the drive is usually 2.5-3 hours but completely worth it, even for a day trip. If we're ever in Port A long enough - we always try to eat at Port A Pizzeria (cheap, family friendly), go to the grocery store on the main street to stock up on food, go to Winton's candies to pick up some yummy candy, ride the ferry and check out Snoopy's under the bridge. Love it here.

I love Port Aransas. Get here after the Summer break around Aug 20th - Aug 30th. The ferry drop off was fast and we never waited more than 10 minutes. We even saw a few dolphins on the trip over from Aransas Pass. The stores were empty. The weather was perfect with little to no showers. The water was cool but not cold. The sand was clean. The bars were empty. The restaurants served piping hot fresh seafood and while they are a little pricey for the tourist scene I enjoyed every morsel. 2 Shrimps is a great little tiki bar and they have excellent shrimp on the menu. I can't wait to return and camp on the beach at least 2x. The moonlight over the water just can't be described.

Hats off to the hard-working city employees who keep the beaches open, clean, and safe. They had the beaches level and open one day after rains early last week.

Great to see the city back after the hurricane. Lost some great places, but overall it is back. Unfortunately, heard about a big problem direct from a police officer's mouth: The city council decided it was bad for business to enforce any kind of parking, including handicapped parking. This means handicapped people are not considered tourists and are not welcome of visit Port A or spend money there. We waited over an hour for an officer to come for a regular truck parked in a handicapped space. We called back and said nothing would be done - it's private property and City Council does not want to upset people....so handicapped people can't get upset over having no parking?!?! Thanks, Port A, for the lack of respect!
