Choke Canyon Bar-B-Q

The food was amazing. Great flavor,hot and some of the best barbecue I have had! The alligator bites didn't disappoint either.

Looks like reviewers either love it or hate it...obviously I'm on the 'loved it side. We saw about 20 worker's tricks in the parking lot, so it's popular with various contractors!We stopped for lunch and I got a chopped brisket sandwich and my wife got a pulled pork sandwich. We both got the beans. Both meats were moist and delicious, and the buns were soft and fresh. Beans had chunks of peppers and sausage and were very good. Food prepared in front of you and the line moved quickly. Bathrooms clean and dining area was in good shape during the lunch rush.

Worst bbq I've ever had. Extremely dry meats. Hair in my chicken. I got here at 1pm so maybe that's why the food was dry? Either way I've never had bbq this bad. The sides were ok.

Texas is a big state, both in geographic terms and other contexts (think GDP, etc.) It is also a scenic state ideal for travel via old school road trippin'. It is my preferred means of intrastate travel.Since I now live in Corpus Christi, and much enjoy the amenities of bigger cities such as San Antonio or Austin, Choke Canyon Bar-B-Q has become a go-to pitstop going to or coming from those areas.It's a great little Texas barbecue restaurant that makes for an ideal break while traveling. Not only does it have great "Q," but it is also connected to a very nice gas station with the same name. From experience I can also say that it is ran by some of the friendliest Texans you'll ever meet.I often stop here on roadtrips with my dog. There is a lot of space behind the restaurant for discretely taking him out. Occasionally, meat scraps are dropped on their way from the smoker to the restaurant, and if we are lucky, it ends up being a nice little unwasted treat for my boy to eat. An added bonus, for sure!

No one deserves a 1 star if at least they are trying for your business. Stopped today with the crew. Sign on door NO AMEX and NO CASH. We run our company on Amex so we had to leave. Corporates avoid this lace until they change their policy. Can't comment on the food. Couldn't get any.

This will be short. It's awful and expensive. This is my brisket sandwich. The meat was dry and stringy. It's in a convenience store. I had wanted to try it for years and finally rolled in and I also ordered a sausage link which for $4 was a total downer. The counter attendant was nice and the she made it quickly.

We travel a lot to the valley and from San Antonio. Today going back to San Antonio we decided to try out this place. Choke Canyon BBQ. Well this will be our first and never going back. While standing in line to order this lady was cleaning around the sides. I noticed the rag she was using went in the beans while she was cleaning around. She noticed I saw her but that didn't stop her. Didn't care cause she wasn't eating it. I wish they would get inspected.

we usually stop on our way home to Brownsville from Austin and this time we were very disappointed with their dino ribs they were nothing but fat and and half the size they used to be and way to expensive. I don't think we'll stop there again

The BBQ and all the food was good and the staff were all very welcoming. We had brisket, sausage, pinto beans, potato salad, mac and cheese, pico de gallo was gooood and the bbq sauce was on point. The cost was reasonable too.

The food was alright and this spot is fairly clean. Nothing special, but not too bad. We did notice how unfriendly the staff was with not even cordial greetings.
