Carnitas Junior

I've seen a lot of hype for Doña Chicharrón but unfortunately...it definitely didn't live up to it.If there's one word to summarize my experience...it's blandness. I always see Doña cooking the carnitas and chicharrones in the AM I believe. So if you arrive at midday... they've been sitting under a heat lamp for a few hours already. They lose the freshness just a bit. We ordered her namesake... carnitas and chicharrones. The carnitas were lacking definite flavor. They were soft but they NEEDED some lime and salsa. I needed to add flavor because it didn't have much. The chicharrones were hard. If you look at the pic...the white part is obviously lard...the rest is meat. Since the chicharron had been sitting already for several hours, the lard part really was unappealing to eat and it had very little meat, and what it had, was very tough and dry. I know she says she makes them fresh every morning, but these felt almost like a day old. Doña herself seemed very friendly and amiable...I think people return more for her than the food, because the food wouldn't draw me back.

Food was decent. Huevos rancheros were good but a bit runny, the lonchesitos estilo progresso and they weren't good. Bread was too dry, the meat tasted boiled, and they were overall not the best. Would go here again but try different things on their menu:)

Tacos de chicharrón prensado was bomb. The lady that helped me was so sweet. I swung by before a meeting I and everything was flavorful. I ordered an order of tacos de chicharrón prensado con tortilla de maíz and ensalada de repollo to add on to my tacos. Hit the spot, also really like the green salsa and frijoles that it comes with.

This spot is amazing. Their service is fantastic and it gets so full because the food is delicious. The ambiance is lively and their music gets you bopping in your chair. Their pressed Chicharrón is crunchy and addictive. You can't just have one! Their carnitas are tasty and I can eat half a pound all by myself. Their baked potato with steak on top is buttery, smooth, filling and delicious. Their Progreso Style Lunches are also yummy and a lighter option. I can't leave without mentioning their Jamaica or Hibiscus drink, it hits the spot in all the right ways on a hot day, or any day, for that matter!

Food was delicious. I ordered tacos de harina the carnitas a la Mexicana with a lemonade. The salsas where good and frijoles where tasty. Our server was polite and knowledgeable. The manager/owner was really nice and gave us samples of their chicharrones and we ordered some of there sugar donuts to go. Music really set the tone and the inside was really clean. Highly recommend this location.

Not the fastest service but really polite nice staff. The food was so good and the restaurant so clean. I'll be back

I give this place a 5 Star review for the excellent quick service and especially for the wonderful authentic taste and quality of the food. The prices are very reasonable and the barbacoa has no fat!! It's a very small place but so delicious! I highly recommend it!

Good food. Clean restaurant. Friendly service. Pork was fresh and perfectly seasoned.

I'm from Mexico City, so I'm a little demanding about Mexican food. But here I have found the best carnitas and barbacoa since I came to the RGV. The Torta de Carnitas was so good as well the taco de barbacoa.
