Captain’s Diner

First time here, really liked it!Very bright and clean inside, and such a friendly greeting when we walked in.Got an order of peel and eat shrimp to start, then the stuffed flounder, huge plate, lots of food and it was delicious.Had enough for leftovers!Everything about Captains Diner was excellent, this will be first stop next time we get back to Padre Island!

Place had a seaside vibe (obviously since it's located in a fishing town) had pictures dating back to the older days with people near fishes and boats. Service was okay. The person who took my order wasn't too pleased with me. Cause I couldn't finish my food which was omelette that came with just toasts with jams. Price was decent not expensive. No clue if I would come again.

I didn't go inside, but picked up food to take home. The customer service was great and the order was ready when they promised... PLUS this was good solid island fish food! Very flavorful and fresh. The fish was slightly overcooked, but the flavor made it easy to overlook doneness. Very, very large portions! Delicious hush puppies; loaded baked potato was a side we selected and it was cooked perfectly with a crispy exterior and fluffy potato interior and all the fixings to go with it. California veggies, another side we chose, were made up of broccoli, cauliflower, carrots all were well seasoned: not overcooked, not undercooked... Just right! We bought one dinner... It was enough for two people and we had leftovers! So, really a great value. You see two plates in my photo but that is one order! It also comes with a stuffed crab, which didn't have a lot of crab meat, but it was still oh so good! Look at the size of that side salad! And the Greek dressing is just out of this world! This is going to be another one of my "must eat at restaurants" when I'm in North Padre.

Random find that I really enjoyed, thanks Yelp! Had the fried fish plate with a rice pilaf and a side salad. Also came with a seafood gumbo which was really good and filling. Safe to say I didn't finish all on the plate, but I really enjoyed it and would recommend. Staff was friendly and attentive. I would go again!

My fish was overcooked. Sweet potatoe fries just mushy.Not impressed. I tried my husband's fried shrimp. Overcooked also.

Our first time there. Clean. Roomy. Welcoming staff. Immediate service even though they were quite busy.The steak dinners came highly recommended so we each ordered the 8 oz N.Y.strip. It came with a garden salad and choice of 2 sides. My niece chose baked potato and green beans, I chose corn, and baked potato. The serving were generous, especially the salad. Steaks delicious.We will definitely be going back.

Amazing customer service from Tee. They were super busy,yet she was professional,nice,and made us feel very welcomed. Food is good too. Nice atmosphere. I can't wait to go back.

First time, came for breakfast. Almost 8$ for French Toast, that came on a huge platter, plenty of room for eggs and bacon but that's not an option. Bacon isn't even an option on the egg plate unless you get it as a side, which is over $4, it comes with several pieces, but one person won't want that much or maybe they would. Place is clean, staff friendly. My husband has been for lunch, said it was good. I'll have to try lunch next time.

We are part time islanders and have always wanted more dining choices on the island. We tried Captains Diner this evening for the first time and were pleased enough. We split the Greek salad and a fish and shrimp platter. The salad was large and very good and came with a pita flatbread that was not made in house but wasn't bad. The platter came with two sides of your choice and a soup or salad. We chose fries and vegetables and the soup. The soup was creamy chicken and was not good at all. Canned chicken in a very salty cream base. Do Not Get It! Vegetable side was zucchini and tomato I think. Unmemorable at best. Now on to the main course. The fish was fried nicely and was very good. Two and a half fillets! The shrimp were fresh tasting and fried nicely too. Maybe slightly overcooked but not dry. Fries were lightly coated and perfectly fried. Overall, a very nice option for the island and I will go back and try the breakfast.

Food & service was excellent! Portions were generous and all the staff were very friendly.
