I ordered the torta carne asada for myself and tacos for a co-worker: steak, pork, rajas y queso. Everything was authentic and homemade. Awesome food and inexpensive."

Sheldon H. "QC Meat Market is the prime example of a properly ran quality general market. It has everything the local residents need, and really good people running the place. The deals on the high quality butchery are hard to resist. They also have many other day-to-day necessities. One of my favorite things to pick up when I'm swinging by here is their Bistec Marinado. Sauté it, grill it, do whatever to it; it is so good!"

When ordering curb side I've placed my order maybe an hour or two before and it was ready quick! Just what I needed. Also, once they were out of stock of what I needed but the staff mentioned they'll get it the next day - and sure enough they did! Super friendly."

Ken S. "Finally a meat market worth going to and having so many fresh meats to choose from. It is clean and the meats are displayed in a very nice way. If you ain't in the mood for meats you can go in and have some homemade Pork skins and cracklings or on Friday and Saturday you can go in and have some tamales from that one famous place in the valley area Delia's Tamales. I must tell you that they are kept in the cold box but don't panic just go home and warm them up in the microwave wrapped in a cloth and presto they are good as freshly made. They even sell adult beverages as it is a small grocery store inside. What makes this meat market special is that they have the lowest prices in town, especially when we are in an area that fajitas reign king of the grill. Ain't nothing better than getting a slab of regular or Angus fajitas for a price much lower than there other counterpart. All in all I do not see any reason for this place not to prosper. All I know is that I have found my place of choice when it comes to fresh meats."

I love their jalapeno poppers. They sell a few groceries like bananas, bread, some canned items, and snacks. They now offer hot sandwiches that you can order ahead of time for pickup. Today I go 3 dozen tamales (chicken, bean and cheese, and pork jalapeno) and everything was delicious. I love this place and the owner's are super sweet. They always provide excellent customer service here. Many places in Stockdale close by 2pm and I love that Salty Slab stay open later."

Daniel C. "This place had been around a long time. Characteristic of the small town BBQ place. Meat and sausages are packed locally. Chickens are from farms around Gonzales. This is the Texas that slow moving pickup truck would pull over and let you by. Everybody knows everybody else. If you get there by noon on a Saturday, like you'll have to settle with what they have left.We had a take out dinner. Smoke taste was heavy, ribs tender, chicken was not dry, briskets were easy to eat even without a knife. To wash all that down was a Shiner boch brewed 15 miles to the west."

Meat was tender, very easy to bite into. Lacked a good smoke flavor. Also needed more flavor overall. Would have benefited from more dry rub prior to smoking, ad that spice. BBQ sauce was ok, nothing special."

The Jungle E. "When writing reviews I try to take three factors into consideration. These are, Location, Price, and Food quality. In order to provide readers with a fair balanced review of an establishment I try to balance these three things. The Gonzales Food Market is in the historic district of downtown Gonzales, and one look around will tell you that the aim of this place is to preserve the old fashion historic feel and ambiance. The Gonzales Food Market holds true to this genre. From the moment you walk in, you feel like you have stepped back in time a few decades to a simpler time. We arrived just a half hour before closing, but they still had plenty of food ready to go, even though there were not many people left in the restaurant. The staff was polite and it seemed as though they were tired from a long hard day, which is to be expected at that time. We were served promptly and found a table in the back to sit down at. I was surprised at the low price we paid for Texas BBQ, which tends to run on the pricy side. The food was good for the price and we got plenty to eat. I got the half Chicken plate and my wife got the Lamb ribs and Brisket plate. Everything was good except for the lamb ribs were nothing but pure fat with no sign of any meat. It may have been the time of the day and this was all that was left, but it was what it was.Aside from the lamb ribs, the place could use some maintenance and brightening up. It is one thing to keep the rustic historic feel, but it does not mean that things need to look run down to achieve that. With a little spit and polish and some good lighting, this place could feel a lot warmer. While the food is decent for the price, the general feel of the place does not incite the feelings of wanting to go back. I probably will, but I am saying this for the owner's sake to give them some advice on how they can improve this business.Bottom Line: I think the Gonzales Food Market is a good place for some reasonably priced Texas BBQ. It seems like a nice little family-run business and I wish them the best."

And wouldn't you know it, it is currently within walking distance from where I reside on the Southside. They will be moving down the road in the next year or so to a brand new bigger facility. It will be slightly more inconvenient to me, but the expansion is much needed given their current business demands. If you are in Corpus and plan to do some grilling or throw a barbecue, this is your place!"

Erica H. "Extremely impressed with their choice of beef cuts and pre-seasoned proteins. We typically order the filets which were able to be cut with a butter knife when cooked to medium rare. Yes the filets were a little pricey but I've learned you get what you pay for and theses are worth every penny for the quality. We've also had their ribeyes which were equally amazing. We tried the bacon wrapped cream cheese jalapeños which grilled up nicely. We also tried the stuffed chicken breast, spinach sundried tomatoes and Parmesan. It was ok. Chicken was bland. If it were me I would flatten out the thicker part of the breast and butterfly it deeper to allow for more filler and it cook more evenly and add either more Parmesan or a creamier melting cheese . As it was the thinner end was somewhat dry and couldn't taste the Parmesan. However, not a deal breaker. Definitely our go-to for a superior cut and quality of meat."
