Wonderful birding trip with comfortable boat and knowledgeable guide. We got amazing pictures and lots of info while being out of the wind when cold. No bathroom but wasn't a problem. Hope to do this again someday.

I took the tour with my son and two friends and Kevin was the captain for our trip. It was all that we expected, and much more. Kevin is expert regarding the local birds, including the cranes, including when they arrive, when they depart, what they eat, their exact habitat preference, etc. More importantly, he has a genuine concern for the conservation of the birds. In addition, our tour helped our appreciation of the entire area around the wintering grounds of the whooping cranes, including history, habitat management, storm damage, and even the busy shipping traffic. In fact we received a thorough interpretation of the entire area. The time went quickly and was enjoyable for reasons far beyond just seeing the birds, which we saw at close range without disturbing them. This is a grade-A tour.

Loved it. I was on Capt. Lori's boat, and the entire trip was fantastic. Lori made sure to point out birds and even took the time to explain to me (a non-birder) the difference between a loon and a cormorant. Book this trip!

This is my second trip with Kevin and Lori. The first was with a group of photographers in February, we had an amazing trip and got so many outstanding photographs from the rookery and of the Whoopers. Kevin is a photographer so he knows where to put you so you will get the best light. His and Lori's boats are designed to get you as close as possible to the birds. My second outing was Thanksgiving with my husband and son on the Lady Lori, with Lori Sims at the helm. She did an awesome job of finding the Whoopers, skimmers, osprey, curlews etc. I could not have asked for a better time! I highly recommend them if you are interested in getting those great shots or just some incredible birding.

We did a private tour with Capt Lori. Could not have been better! Capt Lori is really personable and knowledgeable about the area and all of the birds. And we saw PLENTY! Left before sunrise and parked boat to have a fantastic view as sun came up. Great trip and can't wait to do it again.

We can't say enough good things about Kevin and Lori! In addition to being very knowledgeable about the area and the birds, they are also incredibly nice and patient. If you're into photography, and into birding, look no further. We will definitely be going out with them at least once a year - more often if possible.

Capt. Kevin Sims has a great flat bottomed boat , the Jack Flash, has flat decks and is ideal for birding and photography. We went out on November 6th and spent 6.5 hours searching for whooping cranes and other shore birds. We found 14 whoopers and many shorebirds. Kevin grew up in the area and is very familiar with the waters surrounding Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. His rates are more than competitive and we rented the boat for the day for the two of us.
