This was our first visit in several years.We were there for lunch on a Friday.Lunch menu has several items (including many seafood selections) for well under $18. Daily soup or salad. This day was hearty beef vegetable. Also comes with rolls & butter as well as kidney bean dip & crackers!The dining room is in great shape even though it has not changed in years...retro elegance some would say. The highlight this day was our waitress Penney! She was extremely informative about the menu items and explained them throughly and with humor on the side. She was attentive throughout but not intrusive. Her 40 years experience shined through and her pleasant demeanor made our dinning experience all the more enjoyable. We will definitely be back again soon and will request her at lunch time. A truly wonderful experience! Give it a try when you are on route 1 Saugus-you will be delighted!

Servers and all dining room staff get 6 stars. Friendly,personable and attentive.Hosted a large family dinner here. Staff created a custom menu and everyone enjoyed their entrees. Sliced tenerlion with mushroom gravy prepared perfectly. Bakey stuff shrimp, chicken parm done well. House salad with signature dresssinf delicious. Fritters and popovers we're an added plus. Staff was great getting tables served, bused and keeping up on drink orders. Can't wait to return to this iconic rte 1 north shore institution

We have been in the past and the food was always great! We have not been in a few years and I admit, tonight we did go because the restaurant recently announced they will be closing.We made reservation (I highly suggest, yes even on a Tuesday Night)Our waiter was actually the Restaurant manager-he was fantastic!All 4 of us got a different meal, and every meal was great! There no longer server popovers, not a big deal to me anyways. They do still give you the bean dip, rolls and the fried dough balls before your meal. The restaurant was packed-there were no empty tables and the service and food was on point!Sad to see this Restaurant go, but very glad we had a really great experience there tonight! :-)

Despite the poor reviews, we decided to try for nostalgia sake in light of pending closing. We were pleasantly surprised! Scallops wrapped in bacon were excellent. Baked stuffed shrimp were very good. Broiled seafood plate was generous, cooked perfectly and tasty. Waitstaff seemed overwhelmed, but attentive. Glad we went before closure.

I have had dinner at theContinental twice over the past two years with friends who frequent the bar.I have been disappointed with their food both times.The best part of the meal is the bean dip.The menu is quite limited, the popovers were undercooked and served cold and the potatoes demonico were tasteless.I won't be returning for another meal there.

Eek! We stupidly thought "well, the parking lot is jammed, it must be good"....every single thing was disgusting. Popovers over cooked, mayonnaise-y bean dip was nasty, fritters with weird cherry sauce were awful, I ordered steak thinking that might be ok and the waitress suggested I get sliced tenderloin and it seriously tasted like it was spoiled. Even the side of broccoli tasted like it was from frozen not fresh. The decor is straight out of the 70's. Waitstaff is pleasant and attentive but the food was the worst I've ever had!!
